The trend of college players opting out of bowl games continues to grow. Why is it happening? How do you stop it?
Why is it happening? I believe a lot of this is agent-driven. Agents for college players are advising clients to avoid bowl games due to injury risk. Injuries risk draft status. Draft status risks money or even a career in the NFL.
How do you stop it? Since the decision is usually driven by money, make it a money issue. Use the option of "missing a bowl game" as a black mark against a player. If a player knows that missing a bowl game could cost him a round or two in the NFL draft, that's motivation to keep him in the lineup.
All of this does not apply, of course, if the player in question is already injured.
Yes or no?

This. Imagine being a top NFL draft prospect, playing in some dead-end bowl game with no national championship implications and you wind up with a major injury that greatly impacts your future earnings, all to play in a game that you aren't earning a dime for.
If coaches routinely bounce on their teams for better, higher-paying gigs, why hold players to some other standard?

Gore and I have talked about this sort of before, but yeah, I believe you pay them. Create a cap that Power 5 teams must adhere too and go from there. I am still a big believer that you need to separate the programs from the schools with the universities getting paid some sort of fee for the use of the name.

Liking this. They at the same time need to hold the coaches to the same standard. Absurd that teams are playing in bowl games without the coaches that got them there.

I'm on the fence with regard to this issue, as I feel both sides of the debate could present a legit case for and against.
The nature of the game, dictates that on any given play a players future career can suddenly end or be forever altered.
Case in point:
QB Matt Corral - Ole' Miss - regarded as a QB to potentially hear his name called early during the 2022 NFL Draft,
was carted off the field of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, after a Ginormos Baylor player landed on his knee.

Just get rid of bowl games and the problem is solved. Or don't worry about it, I hope all likely to be drafted players start sitting out, good for them. No reason to put your physical health and financial future on the line for some school and companies that don't care about you.

Why should a player risk his pro career playing in meaningless Bowl game.

"How do you stop college players from opting out of bowl games"?
As we all know, the NFL game is on another level compared to the NCAA Game.
Many a sure-fire/can't miss player, has failed to live up to the hype once they turn
pro.
Although this isn't something new to those of us that follow college football, the amount of
money to be made for bowl participation, is nothing for the schools involved to sneeze at:
"Bowl Game Payouts are Practically a Small Fortune in College Football"
Gone are the days of the traditional post season bowl game, as more and more corporations
offer their profits and name as sponsors. Even Jimmy Kimmel got into the act this bowl seaon,
with the inaugural "Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl", played at SoFi Stadium on the 18th of December.
Whether he acted as a front man or as a solo act, matters little. Question being, who'll be next
in line to host a bowl game to avoid the IRS come tax time … as I'm sure the list of those with
enough income, and connections is long and strong ?!?!?!
I don't know if I'm down with involving insurance companies, yet off the top of my head, I thought
that they could provide a solution for the players, and the bowl game organising committies.
Even opera singers, and others in skilled professions have policies with companies as Llyods of
London to insure themselves against future income loss from unforeseen injury.
The bowl committies -- based a players projected round to be drafted -- could offer participants
a policy against career ending - as well as - a huge drop in draft status, plans if such an occurance
did happened.
I doubt they'd do something as progressive or moral for the players the universities literall make millions
from, yet it seems that if I could come up with such a solution in a matter of of few seconds, than why
not with them with more time and thought as well?
One thing is certain, unless a soluions is had, this trend will continue to grow from season-to-seasom.
Thoughts 🤔

Don't have 400 useless bowl games.
