The Shark Tank 🦈

Defense will be much improved
Missing the playoffs (got pretty close) must've left a very bad taste in Grier's mouth... if healthy, Sharks could go deep

back to the basement we go

Barring injury they'll be a playoff team this year. I hated the Nurse trade, such a bad deal for a terrible contract but they did improve the veteran leadership in the locker room and became a tougher, more physical team which is what you want when your young stars are mostly smaller guys.

These contracts will also be all coming off the books right around the same time which is another positive.

I cant criticize the Marchment deal, even if it was an overpay. He's a solid veteran that will add a lot to the team and I love that he's following in his dad's footsteps and sounds completely psyched to be in San Jose. I think he'll become a fan favorite sooner rather than later.

To me, it's as simple as this:

Nurse, Trouba and Kesselring >>> Klingberg, Leddy and Mario

Yes, it cost a lot of cap space. But the Sharks 2026-27 defense is better than their 2025-26 defense. There is no question about it. And they decided to keep most of their assets by using large chunks of cap space instead.

The draft was all about 2028 and beyond. Yesterday was about finally getting this team out of the lottery and in the playoffs immediately.

Would be nice not to have some booty contracts on the books

GMMG is a diehard Shark to the end... he had to at least try to show up DW even just a little bit, otherwise what good is he

The offer sheet signed by leo/flyers/ducks, won't affect our ability to resign celebrini

but if someone tries to make a run at will smith next year, i would let them

Obviously it depends on the money. Smith isnt untouchable like Mack. However, with the chemistry those 2 have on the 1st line it would be a big hit if he left. Hopefully they sign him to a reasonable contract

If misa/Stenberg have a strong showing this season, Grier might dangle smith anyways, even with a reasonable contract.

Anything is possible but I'd be very surprised if that happens

I just hope Sharks don't lose any of the young core we have in near future... not until (at least) they get their shot at cup with SJ
