Are there any zoners that have experience with horse race betting? I want to lay some money down, missed the derby. I dont know much about it, besides betting on the Big 3 races and even then it's basically guessing.

So you Have never bet horses before? Oh fk it's fun. Time to wet your beak on some horses. It's not rocket science so you can pick it up pretty quick.
I like Good magic. Justify is the heavy fav here and a safe bet all around. It's going to be a tall order to beat him. He's racing against a smaller pack now. Sporting Chance is a solid play for the Place & Show bets. Bravazo is a sexy pick @ 20/1 odds. Be cautious with him though.
Throw in an Exacta bet. You can bet these too: Win bet, Place bet, show bet.
An exacta bet is a bet where you pick two horses to finish in the first and second place positions.
Then there's an Exacta Box bet. So by boxing your selections, the two horses can finish in any order. This also allows you to choose more than two horses. So for example, if you choose three horses in a boxed exacta, any two of your horses need to finish first and second – but you now have six possible combinations.
Win, place, show, or first, second and third. When you bet on the winner, you simply get the horse at its odds and if it wins, you cash that amount. So $10 on a horse at 12-to-1 nets you $120. If you bet on a horse to "place," or come in second, the payout is less, and same goes for "show."
You can make an "across the board" wager on a horse. It's where you bet on that horse to win, place and show. If the horse wins, you collect all three.
Bottom line bud to find value you'll need to look to the Exacta, Trifecta, Pick 4, Pick 5 or Pick 6. Safest money is on Justify. Really is. But value isn't great so depending on what you want to spend is the key.
My Plays:
JUSTIFY (can't go wrong pick)
GOOD MAGIC
QUIP
BRAVAZO
Trifecta Key: JUSTIFY with QUIP, GOOD MAGIC
Exacta: JUSTIFY over GOOD MAGIC
Exacta Box: JUSTIFY and GOOD MAGIC

That was a really fun race. Good Magic again was there then faded. Bravazo hot damn!
Justify ... what can you say.. easy money. Sets up the triple crown. I think we may see a triple crown winner at the Belmont

Never been. But My uncle has owned numerous horses that raced harness. As a kid I got to sit in the winners circle and get my picture taken many many times, sometimes the jockey would sit me on the sulky. I have got a signed whip once given to me post race by Rick Zeron.
My uncle and a couple of his buddies taught me a lot about betting on harness racing.
