Seems like Polian and Ebersol are trying to scapegoat Dundon. They were probably shocked that anyone would buy a league that wasn't going to survive half a season.

I'm bummed, I was starting to get into it to placate me in the off season. It was at least, some hard hitting, football. Too bad, I was really looking forward to seeing the Championship game.

As a lifelong fan of the Birmingham Iron, the sadness of my fellow Iron Maniacs is quite palpable.

Sounds like he realized the league had a worse foundation than advertised and bailed?
Though, I suppose you're right - he just as well could've had narrow goals to begin with.

Its being reported that all he ever wanted was the rights to the gambling app that the league was developing, now that he has that, he's out.

I think that's Dundon spinning it as the NFLPA's fault more than anything, but I do think they were looking at the NFL as a partner. Teams in major cities without NFL franchises gives the NFL a chance to test markets for expansion, developing NFL players and coaches, etc.
Agree it should have been a long time ago. That's a good way to lose 70M.
They want the NFL to back players contracts if they get hurt in this league. Too bad the CBA doesn't expire until after the 2020 season. Don't think they can do anything about that now.
Sounds like excuses.
The NFL started with 14 teams in the early 20s. By the end of the first season only 4 teams were left. For 5 years they had between 20 and 10 teams. Until they set a 12 franchise limit and regulated how the league was run.
A new league like this would takes years of losing money before it would ever be profitable or backed by the NFL as they want it.
Prob should have started with 4 or 6 teams. I think they tried to go too big too fast without proper planning.

So are they not playing out the remaining games? I still have 1 game remaining on my season tickets. I don't mind eating one game if I have to. Still I was looking forward to one last home game for the San Diego Fleet.
I didn't think it was the best thing ever. Still it gave you a football option in the offseason. Plus more tailgating in the offseason with friends which I thought was fun.
Jeez at least finish out season 1. For the fans who paid for it. Even if it didn't last 3 years at least it would be a good faith effort to make it through season number 1. This just seems wrong. There are only a few games remaining. Plus a 4 team playoff. They couldn't finish just that?

Sounds like it done for good. Dundon lost 70 million in this investment and doesn't want to lose anymore.

Hard to believe they didn't even have 20M to finish out the season. Just poorly done.
