It's a popularity contest. Not something based on on-court accomplishments. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

Because I thought they reduced the fans' impact on the voting process.

Fan vote counts for 50% of the vote. Current players 25% and media 25%. They all still vote with their own opinions and preferences. Not the absolute most deserving. Curry, Harden, and Westbrook all deserve to start. Somebody was gonna be left out. And no matter who got the nod, it was still a popularity contest.

Other than leaving Westbrook off I think they got it right. There are always deserving players who get left off and that would be the case no matter who votes.

Guys who are deserving of being an AS that could be left off.... Just guessing obviously
West
Rudy Gobert
Gordon Hayward
DeAndre Jordan

East
Joel Embiid
Andre Drummond
Paul Milsap

(Huge Curry fan, but can admit he shouldnt be starting.)

Neither Kyrie nor Curry deserved to start in the All-star game this season. Fans/coaches/media vote should only mean that these 5 players made the team. All 3 should get equal %.

Then, the Coaches should get to vote in the rest of the roster and the two coaches who are managing the game should select the starters from the roster imo.

Westbrook has a .543 TS%, a 10.8 – 5.7 assist:turnover ratio per 36, and one of the worst DRPM's in the NBA. You can't just look at the glory stats. This is why Harden is the runaway MVP at this point IMO, as he is a MUCH more efficient player. Although it helps when you shoot 10-15 FT's a night ... lol.
Forgot to add that of the 30 players in the NBA averaging 20+ points per game, Westbrook is #29 in efficiency. No doubt some of this is him having to do even more while trying to cover a Durant sized hole in the roster. But even when Durant was there, he was was a high volume shooting, inefficient player. It is just who he is. One of the best athletes to ever play in the league, but equal amounts of WTF moments.

I agree. You now how people say high-volume scorers are not quite as efficient as their ppg indicate? Westbrook is like that, but all across the statistical spectrum. He gets those numbers off pure hustle, which is unrivaled in the league.

Westbrook is having an incredible year. Its no easy feat to be averaging a triple double for the season. But games like the one against the Warriors is a reason why I'm not bananas about him. Dude had a triple double and was garbage all game long. I guess that speaks to his talent and competitive drive that he can get a triple-double and play like crap, but he has a lot of performances like that. He was wild and out of control for most of the night.

He had a quadruple double actually .. 10 turnovers as well. Which just serves to illustrate what we were both saying.

And don't they have the Lakers #1 this year, and the option to swap #1 with the Kings? I believe the Lakers pick is protected, but not heavily (like top 2 or 3 maybe?). It looked like Embiid hyper extended his leg last night though.

yeah he hyper extended it twice so they took him out for precautionary reasons. He said after the game he was fine and wanted to go back in
