That John Wall stuff has been going on forever and I can bet you that if it was Steve Nash doing it in his prime Cowherd wouldn't have a problem with it. You can only use the "taken out of context" phrase for so long before it becomes apparent that the guy is just an racist asshat.

Well, different people perceive things differently. I don't want to turn this into anything about race, because it's just a no win argument either way. I find Cowherd interesting to listen to and somewhat provocative, no way I agree with everything he says. But, he wasn't in ESPN's cookie cutter mold and now that he's not there I find that somewhat disheartening because the network just doesn't hold any interest for me anymore. He was the one guy who stood out as being different, and I don't think that was a bad thing. I'm white, one of my best friends is black, and he likes Cowherd even more than I do. I never once heard him say anything about Colin having racists takes, the dude listened to him religiously and he is pissed that he's not on ESPN anymore.

I get it, I'm a huge fan of Bill Simmons and was pissed to see them fire him especially since it had a lot to do with him being critical of Roger Gooddell. I have no idea where good sports journalism lies anymore but it sure isn't with the big companies like Fox and ESPN.

Not just sports journalism, all journalism has gone really bad. Fox and NBC are the outliers of the networks, each one far right or far left.

And most local sports radio is just horrible, every market (and I hear a lot of them because of how much I travel) is just a joke.

What he said about Dominicans was stupid and poorly phrased, and I don't think baseball is that simple. Much of the duel between a pitcher and hitter is about mental acuity. Though of course nowhere near as complex as playing QB.

Was especially sorry to hear Cowherd say this because he's generally been very good on race issues, frequently calling out racists in his audience and talking about how much further we have to go in this country on race relations. He'd point out, for example, how much quicker fans are to bash black players than white players for off-the-field issues, and that the NBA has been unfairly stigmatized because it's not white enough for many Americans.

Agree with you, he's always talking about how people have to be more open minded and willing to accept change. He's called himself a fiscal conservative and social liberal numerous times on his radio show. Nothing he's said before leads me to believe he is a racist. I guess if you are anti-gang that makes you a racist?

And yes, the Dominican comments were not typical of him, and it was simply stupid. I don't think many people think he's a racist at all, and in my opinion he will more than likely be highly successful moving forward. His football show on ESPN Sunday mornings was one of the best.
