MLBTR ON COLON

Bartolo Colon is defying the odds yet again
this season with the Athletics , Tyler Kepner
of the New York Times writes. Colon
currently has a 2.69 ERA with 4.9 K/9 and
1.1 BB/9 in 120 1/3 innings despite his age
(40) and the fact that he was suspended last
season for testing positive for testosterone.
Common sense suggested that, without the
use of PEDs, Colon couldn't keep pitching
well, but the A's took a chance on Colon,
signing him for $3MM plus bonuses. " Our
organization thought he would be very
similar based on what they saw in winter
ball," says A's manager Bob Melvin . " He was
throwing with the same velocity he does right
now, the same movement. It was an easy
sign for us and we did it very quickly, based
on what everybody thought he would be like,
and certainly he's been that and more.

Best record in AL if Sea beats Bos.

And they're doing it without anyone having a truly monster season with tthe bat...Donaldson has been consistent, but doesn't have the gawdy video game numbers that blow you away. Maybe in second half Cespedes can start playing half as well as Puig.
Cespedes in the HR derby, Sonny Gray and Grant Green called up, and have one of the best records in the AL. Life is good for the A's right now! just hoping we can keep it up.

Hes probably going to be named in this upcoming crackdown. Plus that stem cell procedure he went to Germany for is the reason hes doing so well. His elbow was virtually gone, and they basically grew him a brand new one. Not sure why that kind of thing isnt against the rules.

Which will be immediately appealed if there's nothing new beyond what he was already suspended for. Can't punish the guy for the same violation twice.
Probably going to be another rain delay. Strong thunderstorms are approaching.
A win tonight is only a bonus. We took the series so if we lose... Oh well.
Looks like bad Milone tonight. 65 pitches and 3 runs in 2.1 innings so far. Bats are gonna need to win it tonight.

come on As

Good to see Gray's debut.

Incredibly annoying: the handful of fans with the constant hooping and hollering.
I'd be lying if I didn't say I missed Johnny Gomes lol
Especially because of how much Chris Young sucks. Were giving Young 8 mill for 1 year while Gomes got 10 mill for 2 years. Young f**king sucks lol. I think the only move of the off season I didn't like was replacing Gomes with Young.

Gomes, 32, is on to his fifth major-league team, so walking into a ballpark where he once played isn't a big deal per se. But considering what the A's accomplished last season and, maybe more importantly, Gomes' upbringing, the weekend should bring some heightened emotion.

Gomes is from Petaluma, Calif., in the Bay Area, and the Oakland Coliseum is where he grew up.

"Absolutely (it's a different feeling)," Gomes said. "I know Shane (Victorino) went back to Philly this year, but it's different from me for a little bit. That's where I grew up. I went to A's games when I was 12-years old all the way up. I wore an A's hat last year. But I wore an A's hat for about 20 years. I used to be super pumped to go back before I played with the A's. Just the opportunity to play in the stadium where I grew up watching. But then, on top of what happened last year, it'll be cool."

Hope the crowd goes wild for Gomes when he steps to the plate, just to make him feel better lol
He's no super star or anything but he was a significant piece to our team last year. Him and Coco were the leaders of the team.

LOL - so true. The amount of hand wringing over the Giants by the Bay Area media the last couple weeks combined with NO media coverage of the A's has reached ridiculous levels.
