Troy Tulowitzki rumors popping up again

1. Jay CF 2. Beltran RF 3. Holliday LF 4. Tulowitzki SS 5. Craig 1B 6. Molina C 7. Freese 3B 8. Carpenter 2B 9. Wainwright P

Opening day? Good lord. Lol

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/rumors-st-louis-cardinals-interested-troy-tulowitzki-resurface-141700201--mlb.html

Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is signed through 2020 in a deal that will pay him $157.75 million over 10 years. Eight years and $144 million remain in the contract. Despite that high price, reports from various sources including the Denver Post and ESPN note that the Cardinals have been in contact with the Rockies about the talented shortstop. It's a rumor that popped up several times over the winter.

His paycheck is high. But the Cardinals could swallow Tulowitzki's price tag, if they so desired, because they have several large contracts due to come off the books after 2013. Carlos Beltran makes $13 million in the last season of his two-year contract. Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright make $12.5 million, Jake Westbrook makes $8.75 million and Rafael Furcal makes $7 million in the final seasons of their current deals. That's $53.75 million, enough to swallow the Colorado shortstop's $20.5 million annual average salary, re-sign Wainwright and give required raises to the team's arbitration eligible players.

Hoping and praying this guy can successfully make the transition to 2B

Carpenter has logged the most innings at second base for the Cardinals so far with 10 over Kolten Wong's nine. He's handled all five of his chances in the short sample so far.

He excelled with the bat in limited time last year posting an .828 OPS in 340 plate appearances. If he can lock down a substantial amount of playing time via second base, he becomes a shallow mixed league asset as someone who can do a bit of everything with batting average being his big ticket skill.

Tulo is always hurt. Having to trade a top prospect+ and eat a ton of money? Id be pissed if I was a Cards fan. If hes this injury prone at age 28, whats he going to be for these next 7 years? Plus leaving Coors isnt going to help his production. Hes an attractive name on paper to pencil into your lineup, but unless he gets healthy for a couple seasons in a row, id avoid, given the cost.

Wouldn't be pissed at all. All you're looking at is the negatives with him (injuries, contract)

Matt Holliday sure is putting up some decent numbers in St. Louis..he left Colorado.

Our current SS situation is Pete Kozma (starter), Ronny Cedeno (backup)..we need to add some if we want to contend with the bigger teams of the NL. It helps that we have pitching prospects all over the place. Our #3-#4 prospect is better than most teams #1. Miller, Rosenthal, Wacha, Kelly, Martinez. Not to mention guys on offense (Oscar Tavares is untouchable)..but then you have Wong, Adams, Kelly, Piscotty.

I hope the Cardinals make a move. It has been all over STL sports radio. The urgency is starting to set in. Although after I typed that, I clicked on ESPN.com/mlb and saw this. Lol

I'd trade for Tulo. That will make the Cards favorite in NL.

Hey James. Figured I would pop in from time to time. Looking forward to another championship run by the Cards. Was a bit disappointed in Mo's lack of activity this offseason, but then again, the team is pretty solid. SS and 2B are still concerns.

A "young Barry Bonds"

Can't wait for Tavares
SS has been a revolving door since Renteria left. Eckstein was decent but never the player Renteria was. 2B has been an issue way too long.
