If it ever happened, I would want Tomsula as HC, I just think he has IT to be a HC.

Tim Kawakami @timkawakami 4m
He wants to be the top-paid coach in NFL. Window or no window. RT @MJohnBurky maybe he thinks the window has closed in San Francisco?
THIS! If this is all true, it's nothing more than a ploy to get more money. And I can't blame him--he isn't even the highest paid coach in the NFC West!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/21/unnamed-49ers-source-denies-report-of-near-harbaugh-trade-to-nfl-media/
An unnamed 49ers source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that the report is âcompletely falseâ and â[r]idiculous.â
If itâs false, why not say so on the record? Thatâs because, frankly, itâs not false.
In contrast, the Browns have commented on the story on the record, and the Browns have neither called the story âcompletely falseâ nor âridiculous.â
Weâll continue to wait for the 49ers to respond to our request for comment. Or for the 49ers to issue an actual press release denying the story. Without using someone from the league-owned media network to perpetrate a version of reality that isnât accurate.
We canât blame the 49ers for trying to call the story false. But their desire for the story to be false will never make it false.

According to NFL's Anti-Tampering Policy, clubs ARE permitted to trade draft picks or cash for "head coaches and high-level club employees."

Even if it's true we would be stupid not to pay Harbaugh an extra 3-4 million. 3-4 million a year in free agency buys you an average player and you better believe Harbaugh will have more of an impact on any overpriced free agency outside of maybe a prime young Brady or Manning. I remember people complaining that they wouldn't pay Jim 7 mil a year, only 5 but have no problem paying a crappy FA 50 million. A great HC means more to your team than any player minus possibly a young prime QB. Also, if the problem is Baalke and Harbaugh not getting along then we would be dumb not to get rid of Baalke and go with Harbaugh. I'm not buying all this tension but if it's true Harbaugh means more to us long term than Baalke even though he is one of the better GM's in the league.

Look at what the reports are saying: HARBAUGH stopped the trade. Again, assuming all of this is true, looks like Harbaugh had the final say.

if he wanted to be the highest paid coach, he would have stayed in Miami after they swooned him with a private jet etc, no?

My guess is that the offer was ludicrous. IE, Niners had no choice but to take it seriously.
Harbaugh probably looked at that and realized he's be in Cleveland with all of his picks shipped to SF.
...and this is just assuming there is any validity to the story, which I strongly question.
