NEW YORK YANKEES REGULAR SEASON THREAD

Jeter: I've Spoken To CC

New York Daily News - Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter said Friday that he has spoken to free agent pitcher CC Sabathia about joining him in New York.

"He's asked questions about us," Jeter said. "But I'll leave it at that. A private conversation that you have with someone is private. If he wants to talk about it, I'll give him the opportunity to do it first."

Jeter was coy about who called whom, but it sounded like Sabathia called him.

"I don't ever try to sell New York," Jeter said. "I'm there if someone wants to ask me questions about different things. But really I don't think you have to sell the organization. I think everyone understands what comes along with playing here. You're expected to win. It's a great place to play. It's not like I would call someone to try and sell them on it. I leave that up to them if they need convincing. Guys tend to ask questions when I talk to them about different things."

Yankees offseason strategy.

SIGN EVERYONE.

Result: The Ultimate Paper Dragon.
Yanks are getting C.C.!
Yanks resign Marte to 3 year deal.
Quote:
RealGM Staff Report - The New York Yankees announced today that they have signed left-handed pitcher Damaso Marte to a three-year contract with a one-year club option for 2012.

Marte, 33, was acquired by the Yankees from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 26 along with OF Xavier Nady in exchange for RHP's Ross Ohlendorf, Jeff Karstens, and Daniel McCutchen and OF Jose Tabata. In 72 combined relief appearances with the Pirates and Yankees in 2008, he was 5-3 with a 4.02 ERA, holding opponents to a .214 batting average (52-for-243). The lefthander made 25 appearances with the Yankees, going 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA, but allowed just 2ER over his final 16 appearances (11.0IP) from August 16 through the end of the season and held the opposition to a .135 batting average over the stretch (5-for-37). I saw that. I thought once they didn't decide to pick up his option that he wasn't coming back. I was sort of p**sed off, but now I'm pumped. The left-hand specialist!

Ya I love the move as well we needed a solid left hand specialist and he did a pretty good job for us, so I'm glad he was rewarded. Nady and Marte were definitely a steal its just a shame Boston had to get Bay.
Yankees Set To Make Sabathia An Offer He Can't Refuse

New York Post - CC Sabathia wants to go home to California and play in the NL, where he can hit, but he is also realistic about how hard he expects the Yankees to pursue him.

As a friend of Sabathia's said Wednesday, "he is mature enough and realistic enough to know that the Yankees might not make it close. And if it is not close - no matter how much he likes the West Coast and likes hitting - he is not going to walk away from $25 million. This is not rocket science. It is about how much more the Yanks will spend than anybody else."

According to Yankee insiders, the mantra delivered to Sabathia will be, "Anything they can do we can do better - much, much better."

Traded for Nick Swisher.

My suggestion: Platoon him at 1B...he has an excellent glove. Not a ton of range in the OF, but definitely servicable if you need to use him there.

His bat has been inconsistent since he came up a few years ago. He had a career year hitting in front of Frank Thomas and Milton Bradley a couple of seasons ago. But he struggled out in Chicago.
BA .219!?!??!! WTF!?!?! 24 homers are nice and all but f**k a batting average like that will have him cut or traded before the deadline next year.

I don't know about what his numbers were last year, but he's historically been an OPS kinda guy. Lots of walks and hits for power.
