Big news. They usually have to wait to get this figure right before free agency (new league year). We'll see if it gets there!

Good news.

Not really. If that's indeed the final number, it's not even enough to cover Jimmy's salary if they want to keep him in 2022. That's a $26 million increase but they have a ton of contracts to do again next year since they did mostly one tear deals this year.
You don't trade 3 first round picks for a QB and sit him multiple years in an era where, unless you're Tom Brady, it's extremely unlikely to win a SB after your QB's rookie deal.

What might help (defer to AB81 on this) Richburg retires and Dee Ford is cut, and that frees up some cap space. They probably will lose out on some of the players on one year deals though, those guys-- if they kill it in 2021-- are going to get their payday on other teams. Example Arden Key, if he gets 8+ sacks this year, he'll be in seadderall land next year with an 11 million dollar (or something like that) contract.

My hope is that Jimmy gets us #6 Lombardi and then ShanaLynch has the *option* of trading him for two number 1 picks. That frees up cap space and increases our draft capital big time, on top of setting up this team to win multiple super bowls in the next decade, if they decide to trade him. We shall see.
If Richburg retires today it's almost a 7m cap hit in 2021, 0 in 2022
If he retires post June 1, the 7m is split between 2021 and 2022.

Jimmy G traded in 2022 frees around 25m.

Not sure about Ford situation.

The only key FA in 2022 is Warner. Sure there's all the 1 year deal club who are scheduled FA like Verrett, Tartt, Williams but there will be space to pick up some FA to fill whichever hole is left. Mostert and Wilson are gone in 2022 too. Tarvarius Moore could be up for an slight extension. Laken Tomlinson could eventually be replaced if Jaylon Moore steps up.

Remember that the ceiling is the highest, it's projected to be $203m, but some within the NFL, think it's more likely $195m-$200m, depends on revenue for 2021, like 100% capacity at all games.

Update, I decided to actually buy a service to copyright protect my content, through Wordpress, for $45 for 1 time, no one can do anything, the only way you're getting my info is by actually taking a camera or phone and taking a picture, I've disabled the ability to take a screen shot and to print it out. If anyone wants to see or have a copy for themselves, let me know, I'm happy to email a copy, just tired of Spotrac copying without giving credit. Also the site is 100% secure, https secured, https://www.49erscap.com/

You have a real talent with these #'s and info. Has any larger sports companies tried to hire you for your content? Seems like you could make some good money doing this. Congrats.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing just now. He should monetize this talent.

Thanks Dirty, no, no one has, I've reached out, was told because I identify as a 49ers fan that would be a negative against me, also that there isn't a need for salary cap news. I appreciate that pdizo, I know we don't always see eye for eye, but I do respect you, so thank you.

Thanks frozen, appreciate it.

Excellent job as always AB 👏
Your site and articles are top notch AB. Really like how you provide not just basic cap info but context and knowledge that allow others to (try to) game out their own scenarios. Shortest possible word count to convey the necessary information but not sterile. Expert stuff. Truly impressed.
Member Milestone: This is post number 300 for kirkscrafford.
AB, given that they traded their #1's for the next couple of years, doesn't that free up some cap. Wouldn't they normally have to set aside $3-4 for a high pick each year?

Yeah, depending on where they would be drafting they'd have to put aside X amount of cap room for that 1st rd pick.

also newest article in case some haven't seen it, https://49erscap.com/index.php/2021/06/27/taking-a-deeper-closer-look-at-the-nfl-draft-picks-since-john-lynch-kyle-shanahan-took-over-in-2017-with-analysis/

Yes, even though the 32nd pick doesn't cost that much per year
