Edit- wait a sec... has he only played one preseason game with us? Nothing last year? When did he get injured? I can't pull up anything on Google/Espn/NFL.

Kyle must have loved what he saw in practice/OTAs. Oh God this sounds familiar.

No guarantee, we just saw Quinn Ewers and Kyle McCord traded so I could have seen Rourke being claimed and it's just not worth risking him when he's signed through 2028 and is a RFA after 2028

I think keeping Rourke on the 53 is all about freeing up Mac for a mid season trade.

If Rouke is your QB2 next year then why gamble on losing him in waivers?

Not many surprises on the initial 53. Congrats to Thompson for making it. Look forward to learning what the final 53 will be today.

I know some aren't for a 3rd QB but when you could legit lose him then you don't risk it, also look at the Vikings they kept 4 QBs, idk why but they must not want to lose Max Brosmer to waivers

9ers still have PTSD from the Philly game.
Going to carry 3 QBs.

That year we had kept 3 QBs at the start of the season. Imagine if we hadn't and someone claimed Brock off waivers.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they're looking to do something with JJ McCarty.

Getting beat out by both Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz isn't a good look for the tenth pick.

Which still isn't really the final 53 because that changes several times during a season. Regardless, it'll be a final 53 for now.
Do you trade Rourke for JJ McCarthy if the Vikings really want to get rid of him

No. Without even going into whether JJM is salvageable or not, he's on a 1st round contract and Rourke is on a 7th round contract. Not worth it to put that much money into the 3rd QB.

It's always worrisome when a QB can't hack it with a great offensive mind. Obviosuly McCarthy wasn't trained well in college in how to be a good pro but if even O'Connell doesn't think he can salvage him.

I agree with this. I could see if Mac Jones wasn't on the roster. Then of course you make that move. Then again I wouldn't be mad if Rourke was the next man up behind Purdy. Honestly the back up QB spots are locked up and should be the last thing they tweak on the roster. How about messing with the DE and Safety positions? They could use upgrades there.

There was some good tape on him from his final year at Indiana. The main reason he went so late was because his ACL was torn and limited his performance.

He would certainly be worth a waiver claim for a team needing a better backup. Teams spend a lot of time scouting players on other teams. There is an entire staff or pro scouts. All they do is watch other teams for possible future deals.

Also I'll add that this to me means they are very likely to trade or at least expect Mac jones to no longer be on the team by this time next year

He looked good, in a game of 2nd stringers vs starters.
I doubt he would have cleared waivers.
