Should have been considered as a first ballot. I am happy for him, but it sucks that Coach Bill Walsh wasn't here to see this.

His numbers aren't necessarily great enough to put him in the HOF but the way he revolutionized the position makes him worthy. The most amazing thing to me is he was considered an average back coming out of college. nebraska never used him as a receiver. He only had 16 receptions for 102 yards in 4 years. Somehow Walsh saw his ability to catch passes and the rest is history.
I think context is needed. Players that played primarily after 1990 have gaudy numbers and they should. Rules favor offenses. Im not saying you lack context though. But Im willing to be a lot of voters saw 8000 yards or so and thought meh. As you stated, he revolutionized the position. I wish we could find a Roger Craig now- triple threat being a blocker, runner, and receiver. Long overdue for number 33. Im also glad it happened while he was alive and well.

We have a guy like Craig. CMC actually is actually on pace to finish with better numbers both rushing and receiving than Craig and he's not surrounded with as many great players. Still I stand by what I said about Craig being a pioneer.

I remember another Forum (Mouth Off South I think) back in the days and one of the BEST topic was JT never every dropping a a pass.
Still trying to remember if he ever dropped one.

Agree. I.love Craig but he's not first or even second ballot. I don't mind that he waited, but almost 30 years is insane.
The Walsh comment makes me sad :(.
