Should the 49ers trade Mac Jones in the offseason?

I see no teams giving up a 2nd rd pick for Mac. Bro was basically free this off season.
Hell NO!!

If next year is SB time, we need him for insurance... it could be a matter of time before BP breaks a toe or something
2nd or keep him

I would not trade him for a 3rd, as the 49ers are likely to get a 3rd in compensation when he leaves after 2 years. It does seem that the consensus is at least a 2nd, of which I agree. I don't consider the 49ers contenders so long as their OL is so bad. They really need to invest in it more, and an extra 2nd can only help that.

Shanahan has a proven track record improving QB, so I would personally lean on it to get extra picks on a regular basis. I also thought it was a bad deal signing these QBs to a one year contract. 2 years is perfect for the 49ers. They get a solid backup for a year, and get a good pick after it.
2nd? f**k that. 1st(teen range value) is the start of conversation. The 2nd, 3rd, and next years 2nd works if it is a top 10 pick team.

Yeah Sam Darnold was basically free also. I say trade Mac and bring in Kirk Cousins so Kyle can be happy finally

I feel like a 2nd is the most we'd get and I'd take it. We need to keep the young talent infusion going
I wouldnt take anything below a 2nd rounder. And probably a second rounder would have to be from a team that isnt a competent franchise, ie at least wed need a chance for it to be the upper half of the 2nd round. If he stays on the team I think its possible we get a third comp pick and a fourth is almost guaranteed imo.

Brock gets hurt a lot. Having a Mac as a backup puts me at ease knowing we have a competent QB that can come in and execute and start 5+ games and give the team a chance. It's pretty big actually.

Conversely, I dont think many if any teams will give up a 2nd for Mac. Those who need to rebuild will wait another year to get a QB in the draft as a 2nd rounder is very steep for a QB who is a fringe starter but has a very low upside/ceiling. Maybe a team that is loaded but their QB gets hurt and they really want to make a run. Like a Detroit or something.

I really think Mac just stays another year here. And I think he will start more games. Purdy hasnt proven hes a durable QB.

I don't think that is the mindset of most teams. I think most teams would be thrilled with competent QB play. Build a team around that player with solid defense OL, and skill players. Win a playoff game. And once in the playoffs, who knows? Remember when the 49ers traded a 2nd for JG? We weren't thinking of being a contender after the trade, we just didn't want to suck.

Jimmy was a relative unknown at that point and he got a big contract after 8 games he played. By the same logic, why didnt no one give a pick for Jimmy when he was available and we were shopping him ?

Mac is a well known commodity with a limited ceiling. Just like Jimmy in 2022.

I will have to disagree with you. Teams that only think about today and not tomorrow tend to stay in the toilet. Mac doesnt really move the needle for any team with big issues. And I dont think hes getting a contract compared to what Jimmy got.
I'd consider a player swap as well. The Jets and Raiders off the top of my head should be staring down at a full rebuild and would benefit with a experienced QB to be that bridge guy at the very least. Getting a player in return would be ideal with those teams as they might be looking to keep their draft picks since they are rebuilding.

We should be listening to all offers though. I wouldn't trade him for nothing thats for sure.
We could have a good bit of leverage next offseason as there aren't 25 guys playing better than Mac next offseason. He's young and he was first round talent

I would take the Alex Smith deal for him. 34th overall and a conditional pick the following years draft which converts to another second if that team has a winning season. NO Saints seem like a good fit for Mac as thy need a QB and they'll be picking high second round next offseason. Mac would be a clear upgrade there if it's an offensive minded HC

Folks would have said the same for Sam Darnold
Nope. '26 will hopefully be injury free so all hands on deck, including Mac, for a sixth Lombardi run.
