He's played 12 games the last 2 years. Imagine the fan outcry of giving up a 3rd round pick for a player having played 33%.

The only issue with trusting the draft process instead of trading for proven players is that you need a competent front office but we have a sham GM (Lynch) and a generally a dreadful record of drafting in the first three rounds even the last two drafts are looking spotty. Is CMC going to be able to do the same load next season

I'd much rather see the team do what it did, and stay pat at the deadline, than just say make bad deals just to make deals. It takes two to tango, and every other team knows the 49ers situation with regards to injury. What? You think they're gonna give us a break and say, the Jets give us QW for a 5th? Trey Hendrickson wasn't even dealt, so who knows what it would've cost to get him....which woulda been a rental in what is still a lost season for SF...despite their mirage 6-3 record. There weren't enough trades that could be made this year that can recoup the injury losses, and any attempt to be so short-sighted surely would cost them dearly next year. Lynch and co. were not gonna let other teams roll us over and take advantage of the injury situation.
I'd have no problem if they made a deal that made sense for 2026 and beyond....they apparently weren't there to be made. It is what it is.

Doubt anyone decent is cut.

sorta s**tty and kinda deflates the rest of the year but is what it is. We keep winning with scrubs though. Impressive coaching by Kyle
This is all true in my opinion. Deflating is a good word.

A DE like Hendrickson and a S would make us real hard to beat. But nope.

Trading a first for Hendrickson would go against everything they're trying to do. Which is get younger while staying in good cap shape.
Jets wanted more than a 2nd for Johnson. That's absolute insanity for a dude with no production coming off an Achilles tear.

Wait, they did do something before the deadline. Ferrell and White were traded for and both had pretty good games Sunday. Which was on par of what I thought they would do trade low round picks for steady players.

For those the don't see it yet, we just committed to a year and half of a major rebuild. See you in 2027.
By then Trent and CMC likely gone and dimished. Warner and Bosa would finally be fully healthy and back. Maybe. Juice, gone. Kittle? He's already always hurt. Jennings, gone. Aiyuk? Who knows.
Entering the new era with new faces!

I doubt it would have taken a 1st to get Hendrickson but he would have been worth it if he came with a 3 year extension.
Getting younger is fine and dandy if Shanahan has proven he can draft players. Which he hasn't.

Can't imagine it makes sense to have big deals for Hendrickson and Bosa on the books at the same time. They spent a 1st on a DE so they don't have to do that.

wow, people need to relax a lttle bit,... yeah, sure the team could have been improved but there were indeed very few players able to do it,...
IMHO the following were the only ones who could have improved the current team:
- Trey Hendrikson. No doubt he would automatically improve the DL but he could only have been a half season rental, the team doesn't have the cap space to have another star in the books (they have already the most stars, with their high salaries, in the whole NFL),... it's not possible to include another star's salary
And to pay a 2026 first round (which is what they were asking for) for one half-season rental is simply insane
- Quinnen Williams. Like the case above, he would improve the DL, no doubt. And like the case above the team has no cap space for another star's salary,... they simply don't have it
In this case there would be some other things against trading for him,... he's contracted through 2027 but the guaranteed money the next 2 years is just $5M which implies a sure hold-out next off-season if they don't improve his contract,.... I don't think the 49ers can afford the current contract, let alone an improved one (for the player).
I don't think that paying a 2026-2nd and a 2027-first to have a player holding out the next offseason it's a smart thing to do right now,... and at the end of the day the 49ers would crash against the same wall,... they don't have cap room for another star's salary
- T'Vondre Sweat. I was seeing this trade as one far more reasonable than that of QW,... rookie contract, 2 more years apart from this one,... and much cheaper trade,... but Idk what would have been his price and no one has trade for him
- Minkah Fitzpatrick. I was also seeing this one as improving the team,... we need a FS good in coverage,... but as cheap as his salary is for this year, next season he's owned some $16M,... which goes against how this team has been structured,... I doubt very very much that they would pay this salary to this or any other safety
there were also JJ-II and Phillips,... who I'm not sure they would improve the team,... but one thing is sure, both have been lately plagued with injuries,... and the asking price was IMO too high (a 2nd and a 3rd repectively)
So, I really wanted to trade for someone who could improve the team this year,... this season's competition is as open as it could possibly be and the SB will be at home but it has not been possible,... well, we have White who I think is a good acquisition and will help the team,...
but the most important, I still think the team can aspire to everything,... they just need the injured players back, which is going to happen soon (obviously, except those out for the season),... and win this sunday,... which is crucial

Jets wanting more than a 2nd for Jermaine is wild. I thought a 2nd by itself was too much.
Still wish we did the trade for QW though

Jets likely valued Dallas' 2026 2nd more than our 2nd and a 2027 "better 1st" than our 2027 1st though.

Minkah would have been great but only with an extension.
