I don't see how Martin wins the Sam spot. Dugger gives Morris much more front versatility with his size, length and strength. He's athletic enough to play as a true stack LB in a 4-3, but he can also slide down to the end of the line of scrimmage and play as the force player in a true 5-man front. Martin can't really do that. He's essentially limited to being a stack LB, and I'm not sure he's a particularly good one right now. Dugger also matches up well against tight ends, which is especially important given the matchups the Niners will have with the Rams. I just don't see Martin being much more than a backup on this team.

If Dugger plays well tomorrow and Martin doesn't, they should call Bob and see if he wants Nick Martin back. I'm sure Bob played a big role in drafting him given how much leeway the coordinators and coaches have in draft decisions. It's looking like another massive reach in the 3rd rounder that will likely amount to very little.

WTF you talking about? Do you know what stacking means? Martin had a clear lane; he didn't trigger quick enough and shoot. The safety did nothing wrong on this play

I will need to go back and see but I think he was much better and had a good game today.

Much better game out of this young man.

The fact that he was a 3rd-round pick is the only reason he's going to make the team. He's like the 5th/6th best LB on the team.

He's making the team on ST and LB depth unless his injury is more serious.

Hopefully just a cramp at the end there

I'm honestly kinda surprised to see the negative comments in this thread. This is the strongest linebacker group from top to bottom, that we've had in a long time and he's a big part of that.

The guy moves very well sideline to sideline and that's what you need out of your LB's in present day football

Sure, he does move well, but most of his speed is negated by his painfully slow processing. Not to mention him over pursuing plays and getting washed out, ending up in the wrong gap, missing tackles, etc.

Let's not forget this guy was a 3rd-round pick, and we're wondering if he's even shown enough to be the 6th LB on the team...

idk why there is hate on this guy. Super talented and just has had injury issues. Hope he can stay healthy and the injury isn't bad.

we are super deep at LB but also very young and raw. I love Dugger and that other huge rookie LB we have. Both will be badass but are so raw. Need a year to develop, is my guess. Would be awesome if they hit the ground running.
