Feel free to go back to that Warren thread and read all the narratives as why he's too good to pass up at 11.
Regardless of the pads going on it doesn't change the fact that Warren wasn't the top TE in the class at any point. And plenty of people didn't have Rodgers as #1 QB in that class either btw. Also comparing a QB when a team has a clear need at QB to a TE when a team has the best TE in the league is clearly you just trying to stir things up.
"Do you ever" --- Why must these replies start about "me" over and over instead of the content of the posts? Lol no one cares about me,....we're talking NFL football stuff.
And on me replying,....I mean no one forces anyone to make baseless, premature statements on messageboards.
If I do so publicly, I don't expect it to go unchecked.
Letting a post go would be you saying "well that's true....it's early",...and not dragging this one out.
I don't believe in speaking in absolutes quite so early when it comes to draft picks and who the Top ___ really was without a snap of football played yet. That's not a crime,...is it?
I checked to see if Indy was thinking about practice squading Warren this early or what,....because it's barely June,...and I couldn't find anything.
Save it. My post wasn't premature in the least bit. It was related to the draft discussions. The draft is over. Taking Warren at 11 was a bad idea before the draft and after the draft we know it was a bad idea for sure.
Whatever happens with their careers doesn't change anything and your Aaron Rodgers analogy was beyond bad.
This team didn't need a TE. It needed DL at many spots. Drafting TE2 at the 11th pick in the draft when you've gutted your DL is absolute stupidity and I'm certainly glad the team didn't have the same mindframe as some people pushing for Warren.
And getting this back to Mykel - he offers the team a lot more but even if god forbid he isn't a HOF level draft pick, he'll still be able to help with the DL rotation. If Warren is just ok his impact with a George Kittle on the roster is minor.

Lol this is no different than Mykel Williams and the other pass rushers. Mykel fit best for us. Just as Warren fit best with us.
Warren doesn't fit. He's basically a big slow WR. I'd rather have Golden or Egbuka if the team was going to spend a first round pick on a receiver.
I don't understand how Loveland wouldn't "fit" for SF either.
Loveland would have been really interesting. Kittle, Loveland, and Juice with Jennings and CMC would make for some really interesting old school football schemes. Have a power-I as the base formation :)

The whole sell that people were trying to claim for Warren at 11 was that he was easily the best TE in the class and too good to pass up even tho we have Kittle here(best TE in the NFL)
Btw Rams run a similar scheme to us. You want to pretend they wouldn't have Warren as the top TE but we would? The pick never made sense and all of you guys who pushed for it clearly overrated the guy.
Despite having made a Cooper Kupp-for-Davante Adams offseason switch, the Rams were connected to wide receivers in the draft. Buzz about Los Angeles and Emeka Egbuka emerged, but prior to that, the team was believed to be interested in a trade-up for Tetairoa McMillan.
According to multiple reports — now seemingly confirmed by Carolina's own behind-the-scenes draft content — the Rams seriously explored trading up from pick No. 26 to No. 8 with their sights set on Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, the first wideout off the board.

I don't want this thread turning into a draft discussion not related to Mykel but I will say that speculation came from Diana Russini who isn't exactly a reliable source. She's been missing on the regular this offseason in many ways including having Kittle call her out.
There were a ton of reports linking the Rams with TEs, including trying to move up for Bowers the year prior. There was also a report by Rapaport that said there was a ton of trade buzz related to teams moving into the top 10 for Loveland and those talks disappeared once he was drafted by the Bears.
Rams moved back and drafted Ferguson a TE as their first pick in the 2025 draft. They didn't draft WR until the end of the 7th round.
Every tea leaf with logic behind it says they were calling to move up for Loveland. You don't trade up into the top 10 for a WR3. Just like you don't draft a TE2 with a top 11 pick when you have the best in the game on your roster already and have gaping needs along the DL.

I for one only wanted Warren if we didn't bring back Juice. I think Warren and Kittle could have played together. No way to get the 2 of them and Juice on the field in a way that it makes sense. So I personally was out on Warren soon as Juice resigned. So at the time of the pick I do agree it wouldnt have made sense.
That said, taking an average DE at #11 wasn't exactly some great move either. He is good at what he does but what he does isn't worth the #11 pick.
Williams needs to improve as a pass rusher in order to become an elite player. There are plenty of excellent run defenders in this class, which brings into question Williams' draft stock if he can't improve upon his career 11.1% pass-rush win rate and 74.3 PFF pass rush grade
Williams' career pass rush pressure rate is barely above 10%. The average college football defensive end reaches 9 or 10% pressure rate every single year. Typical first-round prospects at the defensive end almost always post pressure rates above 12%, and usually, their peak pressure years come in above 16%

Look how that one turned out.
All of this stuff is early gossip. Aaron Rodgers was the "top" QB from his class, though,...unless there's a name I'm missing? But it certainly wasn't Alex Smith.
Not sure of the definition of top you are familiar with, but 1 team reaching way too high for a certainly player doesn't automatically make them the Top player at their position years later. The top one will depends on what eventually gets shown on the field. At least,...that's how I usually see the term used?
It may turn out that Warren would've been a great pick for us and Mykel ends up a bust. We just dont know...the pads arent even on just yet...lol.
Rodgers was absolutely not the clear cut favorite the year he came out, lol.

Would have cost the Rams a s**t ton to move up from 26 to 8.
Who was the Rams targeting?
Loveland. Which makes me laugh because we heard for months how Warren was easily the best TE in the class and worth taking at 11 even though we had Kittle.
Ahhh okay. I had Loveland as my TE1. Wasn't shocked he got taken higher than Warren
I had Warren head and shoulders above Loveland, so we'll see. Mykel absolutely fits us perfectly, but at as much as fit matters if he doesn't get to the QB it's a waste. No one knows who will pan out, who's to say what Warren could have been for us? We'll never know.

Why the hell are you guys arguing about TE in this thread?

Because of the guy who doesn't want this thread turning into a draft discussion not related to Mykel

I think they can both be good TEs in the league. IMO Loveland is just a much better receiver at this pt.
I think Williams will be a fine young DE for this team as long as he stays healthy.

Realistically none of the 8 TEs taken in the 1st round between 2017 and 2023 have been good picks based on their production. I kind of feel like teams see what a stud TE can do for a team like Gronk, Witten, Gates, Ertz, Kelce, and Kittle and reach for potential at the position, but it's rare for those skills to translate.

The problem is GA's scheme and how they use their DL. It's a lot of rotations, nobody really plays most of the snaps, almost all their players on the DL play about 50-60% of the snaps. Williams was so good at so many things that they used him everywhere on the DL, while having multiple assignments from a game to game basis. Add to the fact how young he is, his pass rushing moves aren't quiet there yet.
Personally I don't have big expectations for him this season, at least not from a sack # perspective. With Huff here, it's gonna be him and Bosa on 3rd down now. I think the Niners realized as well that he's not quiet there as a pass rusher either, hence that trade.
But I do really like the pick, wasn't crazy about it at first, but a good buddy of mine is a big GA fan and he's rarely been wrong about GA players that go to the NFL.

IMO this was a subpar draft as far as top end talent goes.
Like you said GA's scheme is pretty frustrating overall in regards to just letting dudes eat on that DL.
kid was playing as a true freshman and didn't look out of place at all. I think he's got some pass rush moves in place, just needs more reps and learn how to finish.
