Anyway, the contract that is keeping him here is really cheap, which makes him much more attractive to other teams as well as to us. And yes, I know you know that as well. However, clearly others are not taking it into account. He is a reasonable qb at a knock down cost.

It was very smart to give him the two year deal. We either turn a very nice 'profit' in a trade or we have high quality insurance on the cheap. Win/win.

Totally. Confess he has turned out much better than I had anticipated.
They have a guy to go to if Purdy continues to struggle. Whether it be out with injury or benched for poor play. If you trade him, and Purdy keeps struggling, you have no other options.

Martinez. No idea what he brings though.

You hear chatter sometimes about how they might be able to open Rourke's practice window this year. I think Rourke is the wild card in all of this. How he develops will go a long way in determining Jones' fate. The kid apparently had a pretty good college career and the talk around the draft was that he possessed a lot of the same traits they liked in Brock, specifically that they thought he processed the game well. He's not as mobile but he seemed like a guy who was willing to hang in the pocket and make the throw.

If he's healthy and can demonstrate that he can be a suitable back-up, then I could see them trading Jones next year. Though my preference might be to see him stay. However, if Rourke does get healthy and shows something, how do we know he won't get snagged off the practice squad by a team who might be willing to try him out as their back-up.

I wonder sometimes if that's why Valdez didn't get any snaps when they brought him up. The team doesn't have a place for him on the 53 this year so they don't want to risk having him come in and maybe showing well enough to attract some other team's interest. Though that may be just fan bias since no one claimed after the cutdown this year.

What will the 49ers get for Mac jones?

there are some teams that are desperate for a QB AND the guys coming out of college are very meh. If the 49ers play their cards right we may be able to take advantage of a team like the Vikings who are floundering without a competent Qb.

The Vikings are currently sporting an aborted fetus or Exxon Valdez or whatever analogy you want to use at QB.
He might be the best backup in the league. An amazing signing.

Wouldn't trade him. Purdy isn't proven and always has some type of injury where he will miss a game or two.
Outside of rookies, I imagine the other options teams would look at outside of Mac Jones would be:

Kyler Murray (Arizona)
Davis Mills (Houston)
Anthony Richardson (Indy)
Spencer Rattler (New Orleans)
Carson Wentz (Vikings)

Unless they want washed up oldies like Cousins and Flacco. Though I think Daniel Jones, Russ, and Bryce Young are free agents. Imagine if we traded Mac and brought in Russ or Kirk as the backup lol.

Raiders, Falcons, Vikings, Steelers, Browns, Cardinals, Panthers, Colts, Saints, and Jets should all be in the market for someone.
