I'm expecting $60M a year but $50M a year would be great.

No. But my reputation/legacy/later opportunities for higher future pay hardly depend on my company's production so…

At some point the money is so large that the differences to comfortable living for yourself, your family and your heirs becomes negligible. Is $50m vs. $60m a year that difference? Who knows. He just needs to take one $50m year and put it into financial plan that allows them to live off the interest and he's golden for life. I certainly wouldn't be splitting hairs over this difference myself in his shoes, but that's me.

Another factor to consider is that he also makes money off of endorsements. The more team success he has, the more likely he is to get endorsement deals. If taking a little less money on this contract allows him a better chance to win and get extensions and endorsements after this contract ends sacrificing $10m a year now could be worth $100m+ down the road. Everyone has to weigh these things out.

Long story short, there's viable arguments for both getting everything you can when you can, or for taking a little less in order to potentially add for more over time with subsequent deals that benefit from being able to afford more quality talent on the team around you.

He should certainly get as much as he can. All players should. How much he can get after a season like 2024 and all of the cons to giving him too much GTD/Salary Cap dollars (low scouting report/pick, limited physically, short run of success) are the only thing that remains to be seen.

I dont think the 49ers are looking for a "hometown discount" or anything. I think they're going to try to pay him what his current value would be after a very good season followed by this last 6-11 season.

Brady took less money so his team could be great. Now he's a 7 time superbowl champion, makes more money through endorsements, has a huge contract as an announcer, and probably gets paid top dollar everytime someone wants to use his name/image.

He also had a wife for most of those contracts making like 10x what he was making so that helps too.

And Brady wasn't exactly playing for a vet minimum either. I've seen people acting like Brock should be happy with $30 million.

I wouldn't either but I'm not going for a Superbowl win and immortality. I also get paid so much less that I need everything like most folks lol.
Pay the man. Shanahan and Lynch would be on other teams right now if it werent for Purdy.

Wishful thinking. The difference between $50 million and $60 million is huge. Not chump change like you're painting it. Is that what his MV is? $60 million? If that's the case the Niners will pay that. No question. They ALWAYS pay more than any other team would be willing to pay. It's their MO. They've never held the line on anybody really. QB pay is really out of whack the league over; don't expect the Niers to reset the scale DOWNWARD.

Anyway, they have to pay him whatever it takes, if they truly want to contend. I think that he's a top 5 QB. Just going off his ability to maintain a cool demeanor. No moment is too big for him. And despite people putting down his physical qualities, he's got those as well. He'll be a better QB for having gone through his experience this year.

I'm sure they've told him "thank you" a time or 2.

Me too but then I would not cry if I don't win the Superbowl.
At some point you should understand that you don't need to be the most paid player in the league.
Tom Brady understood that.
