That's the thing with Kyle, if you have the hot hand he'll run you to the ground. Look at Mostert in 19' when he caught fire against Baltimore. Kyle made him the feature back and luckily for us he stayed healthy that year

The zone read that Kyle runs also allows for the back to get up to a very high speed before contact is made, as opposed to some more tradition running games.
Faster backs are obviously the best fit for his offense and most of those guys are smaller.

This is honestly a testament to how good the scheme is but a reason we run through so many backs.

That's why he can't be giving guys 25 plus carries and he needs to split regardless if Mitchell is hot. Mitchell already has proven he'll get banged up constantly.

I agree

Me, too.
Come on guys. These are professional football players. Blaming Kyle for putting the players out there to play... feels like alot of you might never take a toy out of the box so it doesn't get messed up.

Mitchell maybe best used as a change of pace back. I think Wilson or Sermon would be better featured backs.

Pretty true. There are plenty of feature backs that can handle a lot of carries without a plethora of injuries

Like who? Every team in the league is dealing with injuries to their backs.

Dalvin Cook took a week off for a separated shoulder and had 200+ yards

Yeah it's pretty discouraging when we have such bad injury luck with running backs. Other teams that have featured backs can get nicked up a game or two here and there but they're way more available than three or four of our running backs combined. That is ridiculous

Agreed, we need to split the carries between at least 2 backs, in 2022, Mitchell, Sermon, & if Wilson is back, they need to just give the most snaps to the #1 back, 2nd to #2, 3rd to #3, etc....

I agree, we can't blame Kyle for Mitchell's injury, or anyone's injuries, ultimately the player is the one responsible getting hurt, yes Kyle needs to rotate better, if all healthy, you can put Mitchell, & Wilson getting carries, and either Hasty or some designed jet sweeps for Deebo.

Agreed.

It's crazy to think Kyle said a couple years ago he realized he had to keep 3-4 active RB's for the first time ever. Now we might need 5 plus a FB just to get through a season of rotation. This system absolutely eats through OL and RB's...makes sense given the type of players they need (smaller, quicker, faster) and the amount of load on both positions esp. at OL with such a huge load of varying types of blocks and continuation of those blocks so far down the field. His run is used to set everything else up so run blocking comes first.

Well, they don't need to be small. It's just that most guys that are fast tend to be smaller.

In an ideal world, Kyle would have a few Derrick Henrys. Unfortunately, that type of athlete with massive size AND speed is extremely rare. And even Henry is starting to breakdown. The RB is a physically taxing position, and if an offense plans to make the run game their focus, they better have a few of them.

What's the word on Mitchell, did they IR him?

I think he's back this week. Didn't clear the concussion protocol last week from the cheap shot but this week I think he does
