Getting Kyle Smith to replace Mayhew would be turning a frown upside down. He started as a scout in Washington when the Shanahans were there and has progressed through the organization. He has been credited for some hugely successful draft picks including Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, Montez Sweat, Chase Roullier and others. He opposed the selection of Dwayne Haskins but was reportedly overruled.
He's and up and coming young executive that would fit in really well with Peters, providing an in-house replacement as well.

Peters isn't gonna be around forever (assuming we don't promote him). Might be a good idea to have a promising young mind ready to replace him when he gets hired elsewhere as a GM.

Drafting Sweat was enough to get my vote. I liked him pre draft, but once in the league, I REALLY liked him

Totally agree. Gotta keep the coaching stock full, can't have a bare cupboard in this organization. Everybody is poaching all our coaches every year.

Living in VA I can tell you that alot of Washington fans really like this guy and wanted him promoted to GM. He's a young guy with a nice eye for talent. He'd be a great addition.

The issue is that we'd have to give him a big promotion or they'd be able to block it right?
What job would that be?

Reportedly their ok with him leaving. With Mayhew now coming in as the gm and Hurney (Rivera connection) joining in a high level position, their not going to block him from a chance to develop his career further somewhere else. He's familiar with the Shanahans because he was in Washington when both Kyle and Mike were. You can always use good talent evaluators. With Mayhew gone, there is definitely room for a guy like Kyle Smith to join.
Ran Carthon was brought on a couple of years ago as one of the higher ranking guys on the pro scouting side of personnel. We already know Peters is a good college talent evaluator. You bring a guy like Smith in for his college scouting ability then it allows someone like Peters to maybe spend more time learning the pro scouting side of things as well. To date Peters has only ever been involved in college scouting and I'm sure in these GM interviews they ask about his relative lack of experience on the pro scouting side of things. It's a win win.
Just to be transparent as well I'm not advocating that Peters be permanently moved to pro scouting. I'm just saying that with another talented college evaluator on staff it would allow Peters to dip his toes into that side of things a little more and learn.
