Bad 3rd downs plagued the 49ers offense in the first half. This is the first failed 3rd down for the 49ers and it came on the first drive on a '3 & out'.
3rd & 5
MIA shows man coverage presnap, with LBs over the A gaps to give a pressure look, but will back into a Cover3.
To the right is a Cover2 beater. To the left is a variation of a Fade/Out. Red clears the area for yellow.
Jimmy first looks to KIttle, but Kittle has yet to get behind the LBs. He quickly moves off Kittle and will look to Jet.
Jets takes a jab step inside to get the orange safety leaning, but the safety is patient, knows he has help to the inside, doesn't bite on Jet's move.
No separation. Incomplete. Kittle comes open when Jimmy looks to Jet to pull the Hook defenders. On this play, once Jimmy realizes it's Cover 3 with the LBs over the A gaps backing out (single high), he has to use his eyes to get Kittle open behind the Hooks. Look to his right (towards Aiyuk/Bourne) to move #51, find a lane to Kittle. I've seen it happen before, not here.
