Because we're all bored and in need of something to take our minds off of what's going on in the world, I figure why not get started on discussing who we think will make the final 53. We know we're going to have some tough decisions at several positions and injuries will come into play as well, but assuming everyone's healthy, this is my first crack at it:

(3) QB Garoppolo, Mullens, Beathard

(5) RB Mostert, Coleman, Wilson, Hasty, Juszczyk

(6) WR Samuel, Aiyuk, Bourne, Hurd, Benjamin, Taylor

(3) TE Kittle, Dwelley, Woerner

(8) OL T.Williams, Skule, McGlinchey, Tomlinson, Richburg, Garland, Brunskill, McKivitz

(5) DE Bosa, Ford, Armstead, Blair, Hyder

(5) DT Kinlaw, Jones, Thomas, Givens, Street

(6) LB Alexander, Warner, Greenlaw, Walker, Al-Shaair, Nzeocha

(5) CB Sherman, Moseley, Witherspoon, Williams, Reed

(4) S Ward, Moore, Tartt, Mayden

(3) ST Gould, Wishnowsky, Nelson

Notes:
- I don't think Jullian Taylor will be ready to start the season
- I think Shonn Coleman is that odd man out on the OL because of the versatility of other players.
- I think we continue to keep 3 QBs.
- I think Pettis is finally traded.
- I think Benjamin makes the team based on the fact that Lynch said his addition made Goodwin expendable.
- I think Jennings barely misses the cut if Hurd is healthy.
- I'm still not convinced McKinnon will be healthy.

You mentioned Pettis being traded, what possible value would he have? Don't you think we try and give him one more shot to prove himself in what will probably be the toughest WR battle yet? And if he doesn't make the cut, then so be it. I just don't see a scenario where he plays well enough for trade value but not well enough for us to keep him.
I'll try.

According to what I read, rosters will still be 53 but only increasable to 55 with PS players.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001106247/article/nfl-players-approve-cba-impact-on-league-in-2020-and-beyond

The active roster on game day will go from 46 to 48 players, and one of the extra players has to be an offensive lineman. Practice squads will also expand, to 12 players in 2020 and 2021, and to 14 starting in 2022. Two practice-squad players each week can be elevated to the team's active roster, meaning that the roster during the week will effectively be 55. That, the league hopes, will help spread out the wear and tear players incur from the 17th game.

Though the roster limit will continue to be 53 for 2020, two players from the practice squad may be brought up to increase roster sizes to 55 on gameday, with those two players reverting back to the practice squad after gameday.

I envision an Eli Harold-like trade, although Pettis at least produced for one year, so we may be able to get a little more than that.
Really wish it was just 55 man roster. We could definitely use another spot at WR and OL.

I just hope Kyle gives up on Beathard this year or we find a way to move him. Carrying 3 QBs just doesn't make sense when 2 are sitting on the bench and have no risk of getting hurt while the other position groups are sharing snaps and risk injury.

Ah, so they increase the PS to 12 but 2 are utilized for the active 48?

So it's really more about the active 48 than 53-55 man roster.

That's kind of weird.

So the extra 2 you want you hope you can sneak onto the PS and make part of your active 48 on a weekly basis.

That's the other weird thing. I think a minimum of 7, maybe 8 OL need to be active no matter what now. You can't go skinny with just 6 active on game day.

Yeah, kind of dumb... I thought it was supposed to go to a legit 55 in 2021 but I'm not seeing that actually being the case either. You get 48 active players which I guess is cool since you can just make the two PS players inactive? Yet.. that almost defeats the purpose of having the gameday roster at 55...

Totally. Very odd. Obviously you'd want to use your 47th-53rd player pool before you call up from the PS to be part of your new active 48. Weird.

I'll play:

(25) Offense

(2) QB Garoppolo & Mullens

(5) RB Mostert, Coleman, McKinnon, Wilson, Juszczyk

(6) WR Samuel, Aiyuk, Bourne, Hurd, Jennings, Pettis

(3) TE Kittle, Dwelley, Woerner

(9) OL Williams, Tomlinson, Richburg, Brunskill, McGlinchey, Garland, Reynolds, McKivitz, Skule

(25) Defense

(5) DE Bosa, Ford, Armstead, Blair, Hyder

(5) DT Kinlaw, Jones, Thomas, Givens, Taylor

(5) LB Alexander, Warner, Greenlaw, Walker, Al-Shaair

(7) CB Sherman, Moseley, Witherspoon, Williams, Reed, Verret, Harris

(3) S Ward, Tartt, Moore

Special Teams

(3) ST Gould, Wishnowsky, Nelson

Notes:
- I envision the 6th receiver spot being a battle between Pettis/Taylor/Benjamin/James. I picked Pettis due to upside.
- I could easily see Solly being traded before the regular season starts for a 6th, maybe 5th.
- Reed shall double as a backup corner and as the fourth safety. I think the team tries to keep as many corners on the roster as possible in anticipation for 2021 when the top 4 (and Verret) all hit free agency.

Yet another example of how the players truly crapped the bed in signing off on this deal.
QB- (3) Garoppolo, Mullens, Beathard
RB- (5) Coleman, Mostert, McKinnon, Wilson, Hasty
FB- (1) Juszczyk
WR- (6) Deebo, Bourne, Aiyuk, T.Taylor, Hurd, Jennings
TE- (3) Kittle, Dwelley, Woerner
OL- (8) Williams, Tomlinson, Richburg, Brunskill, McKivitz, Garland, S.Coleman, Skule
DL- (10) Bosa, Kinlaw, Jones, Armstead, Ford, Blair, Thomas, J.Taylor, Hyder, Givens
LB- (6) Warner, Greenlaw, Alexander, Al-Shaair, Walker, Nzeocha
CB- (6) Sherman, Moseley, Witherspoon, Verrett, Williams, Reed
S - (4) Ward, Tartt, Harris, Moore
K- (1) Gould
P- (1) Wishnowsky
LS- (1) Nelson

*Shon Coleman is not going anywhere. As of now, I think he will be the best swing tackle option if healthy.
*I have a feeling Street is out or maneuvered to the IR.
*Just a gut feeling, Hasty shows well in pre-season. Will not be able to stash him on PS.
*Jennings over Pettis. Have no faith in Pettis' heart. He is not a fighter.
*James is gone only because they have Aiyuk to handle return duties with Reed and T. Taylor.
*It's possible they keep 9 OL, if so, Compton stays but I think Kyle rather keep 10 DLman
*This is Verrett's last chance and I think he will deliver. If he stays healthy, this will be an upgrade in our secondary.

I think that depends on where they have injuries. The practice squad is like a flex pool of resources. So if Juice goes down for example they my flex Hokit onto the active roster or if the loose a couple backs they may flex a Running Back onto it.

That certainly can help...allows teams to not have to pay higher salaries to those PS players until they absolutely need to elevate them...a bit more flexibility for immediate needs.

The challenge then becomes, stashing players on the PS is going to be harder now since you can grab any player you want off others PS's for the FB you need...I wonder how that works. The elevation of 2 can only be for your team whereas if you steal one, they still only count against your 53 (not the 2 designated PS elevations). Hmmm, so many questions.

They always make it as complex as possible, don't they?
