The OL is such a blind spot for this regime. I do like Puni though.

I'm gonna go on a edge and say it's Chris Foerster more than Shanahan. I bet if he really told Shanahan he needed a RT, he'd get one.

I don't understand.
Kyle can't see what's going on to know this?
Top RTs are not just sitting around and they don't grow on trees

hopefully Feli comes back healthy and ready to go at Center and we really be cooking

Oh HOF lineman aren't sitting around waiting to be snatch up!!??
Hey thanks for the info lol.
Just straight to extremes.
Again, any rational person can see that our line as a whole could have used an upgrade through the years. I mentioned I would have preferred Kyle grabbing a lineman through the years instead of the rb's he's grabbed pretty high that have busted.
It's been said forever football is won in the trenches.
Giving your QB that extra 1/2 second helps out everyone, but most importently it should help prevent getting your QB smashed constantly.

what extreme? Are you saying any RT would be an upgrade?

Our OL hasn't stopped us from being a successful team, and only the Refs/Mahomes has been in our way from the ultimate goal

How do you know that if he had drafted O linemen instead of RBs tht they woud have been any good. He drafted McGlinchey in the 1st round. Where's he now? Banks and Puni are both starters. Burford is a rotational player. There are only 2 or 3 teams that don't have holes in the O line. Those teams were so bad for a long time that they were drfting high every year. Detroit finally got it right. Thankfully, the 49ers don't get to pick those top guys very often.

You have to at least try to bring in some real competition for Mckivitz. dude is just trash. the draft in general is a crap shot but you not gonna win if you don't roll the dice.

Actually, PFF ranks 75 OTs with the minimum number of snaps. McKivitz is #22, McGlinchey is #44 (he has missed a couple of games due to injury).

IMO, having the more dependable Puni next to him has helped him. Last year the back and forth between Feliciano and Burford was not good.

A lot of folks wanted the 49ers to draft Suamataia. Instead, KC drafted him and he has been legit trash - ranks 74 out of 75.
Not sure why all the hate for McKivitz on here. He is actually having an improved season. He has allowed one sack and 5 penalties in 760 snaps.

Yup, he's been completely fine. People like to harp on the one or two times a game he gives up a pressure, but that is above average compared to most RT in the game.

He's come a long way and has been very good value where he's been selected and the contract he currently has.

Started to ease up a bit lately. The penalties were frustrating earlier on, but he has been blocking better. Thought he had some good blocks against Buffalo. Still think we need to keep Moore and Bartch on the field this year. I'd really want to see Moore at LG and Bartch at center.

I wonder if 77 can be a solid center for us.. he may just be that CHOSEN ONE

McKivitz isn't a great RT but he's actually improved quite a bit this season. Perhaps Puni is so good he's improved McKivitz' numbers, although when you consider Brendel has been replacement-level bad this year it makes you rethink Colton. Zach Fraser was on some people's lists as well and he's been very effective in Pittsburgh and, in hindsight, would have been amazing when paired with Puni. Oh well. I think the 49ers are feeling the pain of missing 3 1st round picks (Lance = bust, 2 years without one). Pearsall has been a bust any way you look at it; he's currently 23 of 25 rookie WR's in receiving yards and he was a 1st round pick. A luxury pick that they don't even use. Players that were in the discussion were DeJean (who's ballin), and McConkey (also ballin).

That said, this year's 49ers draft class has been very good. Puni looks like a future All Pro guard, Rennardo Green looks like a promising young corner, Mustapha looks like a cheap replacement for Hufunga. Guerendo I'm not as sold on as the 49ers talking heads have been but we're going to find out.

It helps to have an immovable object next to you. Last year was a disaster after Feliciano was hurt.
Bartch has good size and may well become the starting center. Of course they need to get some players healthy before they can make that switch. Maybe next year depending on what they do in the draft and free agency.

Well O-Lines are more about the sum of their parts than the parts themselves. So it's not a surprise to me that McKivitz has benefitted from Puni next to him.

Continuity is indeed a big part of any successful line. The way they block requires each player to understand how the guys next to him play.
