It's a rare player that can come right in and play well in year one. Those types are usually gone after the top 10-15.

Last year was our best chance having a high pick, also was hoping for Josh Simmons to fall to us in the 2nd but both him and Membou got taken just a few picks ahead

Trade him to Houston, or whoever, for a 3rd or 4th. Use that pick plus a 1 to move up for a top 5 OT in draft. Use the cap savings to sign Linderbaum & W Teller ( any LG).
If he is still playing at all pro level, teams should be in line to trade for him. If not, his demands should drop.
I still wanna know why Schefter and Lynch said he'd be released if they couldn't come to terms? I would trade him or make him play it out. He's signed the deal.

He's not holding out It's crazy how many posters think he does this every year. He's held out ONCE and it wasn't about getting more money but the amount he was guaranteed.

I didn't say he was holding out. I said what I don't understand is why he would be released.

The team isn't happy with the deal.

Lynch never said that, Schefter did, which again I don't buy, he's known for reporting stuff that he hasn't even verified, and usually gets info from agents, which is hardly 100% true.
Obviously Trent is a HOFer but sometime in the near future he will be defeated by Father Time. They better have some good idea how to replace him cuz he may only have one good quality season left and if they don't, LT will suck in fairly short order.

Lynch didn't say that I'm pretty sure. Schefter said it cuz he's a voice for whomever feeds him info. In this case...Trent's agent.

49ers aren't going to release Trent and leave a giant gap at LT to save $4 million.

Exactly. This is BS season with kickbacks galore.
It makes no sense to cut him vs trade. We gain no additional cap. At that point, even trading him for a 7th round pick (which probably 31 teams would offer) is better than cutting him

I think we'd get $4 while leaving us with a major hole at one of the critical spots on the roster and giving us 0 compensation for losing a player with value.

At minimum if Trent isn't in our future plans we would trade him. I'd even bet the team would be willing to gamble that Trent doesn't sit out the season or would try to move him before the trade deadline.

4m in cap space. 33m in actual dollars.
I hope this isnt insight into the 49ers overall strategy this offseason.

We'll find out if it's a smart move or not but waiting til most teams shoot their wad in FA does seem logical to help leverage.
