total freakin' warrior, he was a total bad @$$
.. who also choked each time we played Green Bay.. one of the reason why we couldn't beat them..
was NEVER a big game player...
You are getting GH confused with Steve Young here, I'm sorry
oh I'm not confused at all...
as bad as the coaching staff was against Green Bay, Hearst showed why he wasn't a big game player..
I'm not even sure HOW he can be a FAVORITE player for any fans..

I'm surprised that Lott didn't come in higher in the voting since he not only was the best DB we had during the great years but was also very popular. He still lives in the Bay Area and shows up for events all the time.

for me a 3 way tie with he vic and gene washington, they were the first ones so they are my favorite.. its like. superbowls. the first niner super bowl team is my fav cuz it was my first
I loved Gene Washington, too...I was too young to see/remember Vic Washington, but my dad liked him and would talk about his KO return TD he had in '72 playoffs vs Dallas.
But Cedrick Hardman was the f**kin man, true old school badass, all-time Niners sack leader ("unofficially").

Rice.
Loved the work ethic, and of course the production. He always seemed to show up in the biggest games.
My rankings.
Jerry Rice
Joe Montana
Frank Gore
Ronnie Lott
Steve Young
Patrick Willis
Bryant Young
John Taylor
Terrell Owens
Joe Staley
Merton Hanks
Brent Jones
Vernon Davis
JG, Kittle, Buck, and Bosa will probably make my list at some point.

I voted for Rice, but Frank Gore is an all time niner great, and is right up there with the GOAT as far as my respect for his game.

I was born right before week 3 of the '79 season but didn't start watching Niner games attentively until '86 or so. I'm glad I got a few years to see prime Montana....it was special.

Joe was who I pretended to be in the back yard throwing the ball to my friends.

I don't how I'm supposed to pick between the greatest football player of all time and THE GREATEST QB of all time. I chose Jerry but now I'm feeling guilty. Ugh! How great was it to grow up with both in their prime?!?. Insanity. Love all the 49ers greats but those two are 1 and 1A and interchangeable.
Speaking of Rice his kid Brenden looks a lot like him on the football field. Apparently they don't have much of a relationship but hopefully for both that changes. Michigan going hard after him. New spread offense might be a good fit.

Going to Michigan will be a mistake.. Harbaugh can build a team, but his players will not put up BIG STATS.. he refuse to allow them to be those type of players..

All the past stars are obvious but if were to pick a player that maybe is not as recognized it would Tom Rathman.
