Punters from Australia that have been drafted have done well and shown to have powerful legs. Did you see the video of him practice punting. He did this punt that is supposedly a rugby type kick. That had a wicked back spin in the air compared to normal punts. I can imagine that making it harder to field, although I am surprised it hadn't caused more fumbles in college when he tried it if at all.

The fact that he can tackle and run the ball on fakes or bad plays, makes him more valuable for ST's than most other punters.

I would imagine the ball spinning backwards would lose a little in pace and thus easier to clean catch whilst being hard to be 100% sure where it will land.

Haven't seen the video so can't really say for sure but it could have been a spiral bomb which is supposed to swirl awkwardly in the air and then swing late on the way down.

Otherwise it could have just been a punt with normal backspin. In Rugby/League kicks are attacking weapons so backspin if they land the ball into space will bounce awkwardly for the catcher. That's not as much an issue for a PR in NFL as the opposition can't run through and score off a kick.

Michael Dickson could have been called upon to drop kick a field goal. Instead that gum chewer coach chose a different play. Would have been the first one in NFL for a very long time. and he likely would have succeeded.

You mean like this ?

Valentine Holmes, Rugby League star in the making, now with the New York Jets.

Makes me wonder if some of our League guys could become NFL field goal kickers, we have some great ones.

Yep. Maybe the fact that traditionally Melbourne based Prokick attracts AFL guys who don't make it or are injured and that the really good Rugby and League guys get paid better than the long-shot NFL pathway. See how broke Mitch was until now and that was after 3 highly successful College years where they dont get paid.
Thurtson and Johns would have been an interesting to see and there was a Tiger that played in England too and had a wicked kick off.

Pat Richards was the kicker you're thinking of.

Kyle Feldt is another one who gets massive hangtime when kicking off.

That's him. Richards gave the Tigers an extra 10 points a game. Could have definitely played NFL.
