This team has MANY ISSUES. But the main issue is interior line play. You can ill-afford to have your $125 million dollar QB take hits like that, ESPECIALLY coming back from a serious injury.
I agree with this, but Kyle probably doesn't see it that way.
Ok, here's the real question: WHY? Why on earth doesn't kyle see it that way? I mean we have been beating this to death, BUT...the only reasonable answer seems to be that kyle just doesn't value his QBs that much. Worse, the QB's salary doesn't seem to make any difference to him. Only rational explanation i can come up with is because he literally doesn't value Qb, even FR QB , that much. If he did, one would assume he would want to protect him. Could that have been part of why Trent brown was so quickly traded? Because he didn't want to spend money on an OT just to protect his Qb?
GRanted, kyle's First and foremost requirement for OLs is that they must be able to zone block...and no secret, TRenton couldn' t. But he sure as heck could protect his QB and ...and this is a big one, he could blow a hole thru a massive DL enough for any RB to go thru. He was a pure power, straight ahead blocker. That didn't mean he couldn't still get downfield and deck some poor LB, or CB or S. because he could and did . But he couldn't zone block and that was all kyle's Requirements....ZBS.
The huge surprise to most of tho was when our QBs got beaten to death kyle's First two yrs here. 106 hits first yr and 126 this last yr . That is obviously tops in NFL, but question remains, how could a sharp guy like kyle, put so little emphasis on protecting the QB. It is like he just didn't care. Part of the game. But when you have a kid raised up with Tom Brady and then raised up by BB, and then turned loose on the league...one would think kyle would take care to protect him and that has definitely NOT been the case. Any ideas why? I can't be the only one thinking this is just weirdly odd.
