Our depth blows because our GM didn't do much in the offseason. Talent evaluation blows...
Pinion is a below average, veteran punter, might as well cut him tonight and bring in tryouts.

I guess people are forgetting that CJ was Shanny's hand-selected guy in 2017 touted as the "best QB in the draft" that year. He had "some of the same things Kurt Cousins had" right? So if you eval was so off that your hand-selected QB can't win is an incredible admission to me. I mean seriously if you just want someone who you can hike the ball to and hand it off, don't make the pick until Round 6 right? LOL
It's extremely difficult to understand why CJ hasn't been benched yet.
Every 6 games, he'll have a decent one.
But just watch him play. He has not business being on the field at all.
It's even more difficult to grasp why a functional backup to JG wasn't brought in during the off season. We watched CJ last season too.
He processor is slow as hell,I thought Kap was slow processing what he see, but this guy is not a NFL QB,he should be a RB not a QB ...but ole Stubborn will stick with CJ come hell or high water......
Some guys have Atari 5200 processors and some have xbox one processors. Big difference. CJ is somewhere in the n64 range I would say.

Cousins struggled early, Ryan too, and Jimmy didn't look like the Jimmy from last season when Shanny gave him the whole playbook to run. Everyone knows this offense takes time to learn, yet you guys expect a 3rd round QB in his 2nd season to have it mastered? CJ looks overwhelmed right now and this is why he holds onto the ball too long. His brain, eyes and arm aren't working together right now.
Our one biggest mistake was not bringing in Matt Schaub, but I can understand why they didn't want to carry 3 QB's or if Schaub even wanted to keep playing. No one expected Jimmy to be lost in week 3.

Time for management to admit CJ was a mistake.
Nothing else.

There's a pretty simple solution. If you know feeding the QB the complete playbook is going to cripple the offense, don't feed him the whole fricken playbook. Makes sense to me. No matter how you slice it, that's poor coaching.
Also, our team problems are much deeper than one position. This team plays like trash all around.

CJ is starting because of poor play by Hoyer and an injury by Jimmy, not because he's ready. Even with being thrown into the fire, he's still showing that he can be a quality player in this league one day. His biggest weakness is he's not at a point yet where he can make quick decisions with the football... guess what? most young QB's have that exact same problem. It wasn't until recently where a young QB got thrown in as a starter before sitting for a couple seasons and learning. Hell, there are first round QB's who struggled way more than our 3rd round QB.
I know this and is the point I'm making is this; when you're in STARTING a rebuild, you do NOT take a project player in the 3rd round. You don't take a player who's not going to be able to help you win consistently. It's time to review the 2017 draft and that's what this is about. I'm well aware that Cousins wasn't "Cousins" when he started but he was taken with the luxury of not being the starter for a team not needing a complete and total rebuild at almost every position. I'm taking a QB when you tell me "we're not going to mortgage our future" with the implication that draft picks are soooooooo precious, you expect good starters with most of them, especially, especially a 3rd rounder.
When did drafting a player in the 3rd round equal a guaranteed starter? You make it sound like if we took another position that this player would already be a solid contributor.
Drafting QB's in round 3-5 has always been the rounds where you try and develop someone to start for you down the road. CJ is only starting because he has to right now.
It is way too soon to throw in the towel on CJ because he was thrown into the fire early in his career because something unforeseen happened to our starter.

This loss should be 80% Beathard and 10% Shanahan and 10% Saleh.

Except Rosen didn't have to deal with a pass rush speeding up his decision making. How about you check his numbers against teams that can make him uncomfortable in the pocket.
Don't attempt to compare CJ being under siege by teams and Rosen having all day to throw against our pathetic rush. Let's also ignore that Rosen was a first round pick and expected to be a franchise QB for the Cards.

CJ Bethard draft profile
The knock on CJ coming out of college was the same problems he's having now, which is quoted below.
Hesitation is a noticeable issue. Often late to pull trigger on throws toward the sideline, forcing receivers into boundary and out of the catch. Slow field scanner who tends to lock into a single side. Too much eye-balling and not enough manipulating. Poor feel for pocket pressure. Two-year sack total of 58 is too high in play-action attack. Anchors deep in pocket and rarely climbs pocket to safe harbor. Oblivious to backside pressure until it's too late. Needs more air under the long ball. Deep-ball accuracy has been terrible. Completed under 30 percent of throws beyond 20 yards in last two seasons at Iowa. Completed just 43 percent of throws beyond line of scrimmage to right sideline.

Bethard is who he is, a QB that holds the ball to long, has bad pocket presence and was drafted two rounds earlier then he should have been. He's not going to be a long term starter in this league. At best, he's going to be a career backup.
