also yes, most of these guys are overrated.
This is the main issue. DBs can lose self-confidence by giving up too many receptions even because they have to cover for long stretches. In my 50 years of watching NFL, I've seen this before. The decisions not to retain and not to bring back Dumervil is ShanaLynch's biggest mistake.
We couldn't have kept him even if we wanted to, since he retired.

I've been noticing this more and more too. Saleh with the eff-it attitude (except in prevent).
Players will probably continue to be confused because some of these blitzes are more exotic than others but you might as well see what these guys can do and expand your defense in a 16 game pre season.
Saleh probably stays for 2019.
I noticed that, too. It looked a lot like the fronts and blitzes I pulled from Chris Kiffin's defense at FAU. Very similar in the alignments, DL twists, ILB blitzes (sent Warner, not just Foster), and even Sherman blitzing was new: https://t.co/oDke0Eay9f https://t.co/zUEefpQoMD

When you don't have talented pass rushers that can get home on their own, you have to manufacture pressure. Unfortunately, the more you manufacture pressure, the more predictable and easier to block it becomes for the OL. By the end of the AZ game, AZ's OL was all over Saleh's blitzes and games.
Saleh is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

Definitely. Obviously they thought that they could stack the secondary with talent and manufacture pressure more with the big lineup and T-E stunts (more coverage sacks). It just seems like he's adding more and more blitz packages now too. I wonder if he'll do the same against Carr and Manning.

He has no choice. This DL cannot get home with any consistency. One of the keys to Seattle's success has been their ability to get home with 4. It makes the secondary suffocating when they don't have to blitz. And they're doing it again this year with Frank Clark and Jarran Reed.
Saleh's secondary has surprisingly been better at man than zone. There's no excuse to not send the hounds.

There is only one answer. Moar first round DL picks.

If they are freakishly big, athletic, and skilled, then they've got a great shot to be average in this defense.

Yeah. the man coverage is another good point. If that's what we're good at, go for it. Make them at least earn it. Just way too many holes in zone right now.

You're probably right that he stays. It's frustrating because I like the guy, but it's obvious he's a new coach. And I do think they have to take a real hard look at it this offseason.
Then I agree Lynch and Kyle haven't exactly drafted well for him either. This scheme requires a lot imo.
Obviously they know their linemen cannot close out. They've literally said it. Assuming they finally draft a real edge rusher. It should really open up the defense since Buck cannot be doubled every damn play.

Maybe we can trade for an edge player? Or a pass rushing SAM so when Foster gets hurt, Malcolm can slide over and play WILL.
