Because he was really lighting it up the first three weeks??? Niner fans need to wake up and smell the coffee. This is one of the worst rosters in the league. Period.
Beathard playing the way he did today is a far cry from Garoppolo. No movement in the pocket, no decisiveness, simply standing there and waiting to either throw it or get smashed. Last week we saw good Beathard. This week we saw bad Beathard with all the previous issues clearly evident.
When your QB is responsible for 3 turnovers, including one that directly led to a touchdown for the opposing team, its going to be tough to comeback from that when your QB hasn't shown the ability to carry the team on his back if needed.
The 49ers dominated time of possession, yards, shutdown the Cards run game completely, shutdown their offense almost entirely save for that first throw, it came down to key turnovers from backup players.
Beathard playing last week was NOT a far cry from Garoppolo though, even though people dont want to admit that.

They're being led by Shanny / Lynch & Co.... how much of it can (only) be blamed on the young kids?

Defensive coaches sure. Greg Roman and Geep Chryst not so much.

I am deflated. That was a bad showing. I thought surely we could beat the Cards at home. This loss probably qualifies us as the worse team in the NFL right now.

With Harbs we'd have a 3-4 system and Fangio. Yea I miss that.

Fair question. Honestly, they (coaches/FO) seem to make their own untimely fails as well. It certainly feels like a losing culture from top to bottom right now and I highly doubt it gets any better.
Pray for no more crucial injuries and reset next off season.

No question. When healthy we're a better roster but we're not healthy...and dumb.

Last week was night and day difference from today. Today we saw Bad Beathard, holding the football for way too long, showing poor pocket presence and awareness, getting the football out too late and making some overall poor decisions. His inability to move in the pocket is one of his biggest drawbacks, he allows pass rushers and blitzers to simply paint a target on him knowing that he won't be sidestepping or moving away from them at any point. He parks himself in one spot and just doesn't move at all.

Yeah, it was not fun, but I feel more optimistic about the future. The two years before this regime took over were much worse for me. The Dennis Erickson tenure was horrific. This feels different. Don't get me wrong, this season is going to be really hard to watch, but Breida's growing confidence, Foster and Warner's chemistry, Kittle's break out, and the stable of weapons who are healing makes it feel like we are in for something special in the not too distant future. Those other years felt like hope would never come.

From the botched extra point and then for the rest of the game, this was pretty much how it was in my household...
