If they do their jobs well they are worth more than we pay them.Originally posted by Giedi:Originally posted by NCommand:Originally posted by NinerBuff:The financial reality of having Jimmy's deal is that we cannot pay for a pass rusher, we have to draft one. LOL. That isn't remotely true.
Agree. I've seen the 49ers win two super bowls with an elite edge rusher and the rest of the defensive positions ranging from average to very good. Just doing some very rough calculations, if Jimmy is about 17% of our cap (30 per per year/177 avg nfl cap) then an edge rusher should be almost as expensive. Aaron's contract is about 23 million per year or 13% of the cap. Then that leaves about 124 million for the rest of the team. (177 - 30 - 23 = 124). Our current salary cap numbers - which includes Jimmys front loaded contract is 177-42 = 135 million. (42 million is from how much we are under the salary cap this year) - I think we can well afford a franchise QB and a franchise edge rusher, and if we continue to draft well both offensively and defensively - that should translate to a very sustainable cap for the 4+ years we have both franchise players. The key to all this is retaining our scouting and drafting personnel. How much is Adam Peter's and his staff worth?

*Or* maybe the Browns will offer two number one picks for Adam Peters.
Now that will be a hard proposition for the 49er fans to reject!

Well, it's the Browns, so we ask for two number ones, two number twos, and a player.

Without Peters those two number ones will probably be a waste.
