Man....I mean I'm all for vidya games. But there should be a time and place for that.....Originally posted by NCommand:Snap counts are everything and he's gone from a high of 59 now down to 3...2...1...0 depending on who you ask. LOL.
But that's not important right now. El Gato has a more pressing issue. Can anyone help?

Its the old adage if you can show it once then its in there and can be realized and shown again. It's on Dante no doubt but it's not a good practice to be giving up on a player after 26 games especially when they have shown glimpses of what made you want to draft them. Just like it was smart keeping Ward and Armstead despite the b***hing and moaning about their situations.
This quote doesn't sound like a guy ready to giveup on a player:
"He's had a number of opportunities," head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Pettis last week. "I'm one of the guys that believe in him the most. That's why he's here. He's had his opportunities. The more he doesn't take advantage of his opportunities, the less opportunities he gets."
i think the key lies in what follows after , thats why he is here
We will have our answer soon enough....If Pettis starts to be a part of the inactives then we will have our answer. If he continues to be a part of the 46 then he still is technically in a position to get opportunities. I really don't care either way because Kyle and John have hedged their bets by bringing in Deebo and Sanders. I am still of the opinion you don't cut loose a 2nd round pick after 2 seasons we they have at least shown glimpses.

Borne, Richi James, DeeBo, Emanuel, possibly Hurd - that's 5 that are tough to beat in making the team. I just think the emergence of Dwelley, Brunskill, and Skule makes the OLine and TE squad deep. Breida, Colman, Mostert, and Wilson makes the RB squad very strong (Wilson being -as anther poster said - is a red zone machine). That leaves the WR as a weak spot on the offensive side of that ball. So if I was Kyle, I'd spend some draft capital on the WR squad in the next draft.
Disagree on Bourne being tough to beat out on the roster. I like the kid, but he's a dime-a-dozen talent at WR and eminently replaceable. The other 4 (Deebo, Hurd, Ritchie, and hopefully Sanders) will definitely be around.
Pettis likely gone--honesty he shouldn't have made the team this year, it's just too hard to cut a 2nd rounder like that. Goodwin is an enigma to me, but I doubt he returns. Taylor who knows.

Difference with those guys has been more about injuries rather than poor play.
Pettis is getting benched because he's playing poorly. There's no way around it, he's played awful this yr and our QB and HC have zero faith in him, rightfully so.
FWIW I've tried to be a supporter of Pettis because he is talented, but he's completely s**t the bed with most of his opportunities.
especially in that Seattle game when we needed him the most. that sideline catch he had but the ball got knocked out from him. if he was a more physical or aggressive receiver like a Deebo, he finds a way to come down with that. puppy dog playing with pit bulls as phrased on KNBR
See I don't even think you need to be super physical, not every WR is. Guys like TY Hilton, DJax, Diggs, Sanders come to mind.
If your game isn't being uber aggressive, then you gotta win in other ways. Gotta separate, CATCH THE BALL, and be on point with timing. He can do the first thing, but can't do the other two.
It's a damn shame because he can get open...s**t doesn't matter if you can't catch the ball or be at the spot you're suppose to be at the right time.
It's not a talent thing, it's a commitment issue. He's gotta want it, he's gotta work for it and apparently he hasn't been.
* NC I apologize for hating on you about Pettis....turning out you were right.

pettis has shown to have smoother and good route-running. but doesn't have elite speed or the physicality you want
I think he's plenty fast, he can get open...none of if matters if he can't catch the ball

Agreed.
As I recall, a distinguished poster has exclaimed, "the social network stuff is irrelevant" in diagnosing Pettis's performance challenges. Yet, the proctology exams continue.

maybe physical is the wrong term. however, you have to be aggressive when making those tough catches knowing you're going to get hit.

stop. Sanders isn't a mistake. Dude is a damn good WR and more than likely will be resigned.

He is going to have plenty of time to master Star Wars over the rest of this season.

No doubt, I know what you meant...it was more of a broad statement saying not all good WRs rely on being uber physical.
Kids dropping balls with no one around him, can't expect him to catch a ball in traffic when he can't even do it in space
These next couple weeks will determine a lot as far as his future in SF. It all starts on the practice field.

Yeah.. I dunno. I'm not going to read *THAT* much into that tweet. All I know is Pettis should be doing everything Deebo is doing. Take a page from him and replicate it. I want the kid to succeed, but I just don't sense the motivation from him at all.

Yea but we had to make the move because Pettis sucks. If Pettis didn't suck, we wouldn't have to give up draft capital for Sanders.

not if shanahan keeps him essentially at the bottom of the depth chart as the 6th receiver. he already looks like he's ready to move on. literally everyone other than maybe Goodwin on the team has outperformed Pettis

That's fair. so far it's a poor pick....I can point out to every single football franchise making a poor pick that resulted in the team having to compensate for that mistake.
