Yea. So did Jimmy and our running game.

Our run game did suck linemen collided on one play and Trent was compromised..

I have and will continue to challenge that JG sucked.. he had one of his best QBRs of the season and a better one than Stafford.. when JG had a QBR that high we were undefeated all season..

I believe it was a total team failure. I brought up only Jimmy and the run game because one poster was blaming the loss all on Tartt and another was blaming it all on the defense.

I agree.

The team completely failed again when It mattered most ( 4th Q ) just like they did In the super bowl. That's something the players and coaches have to Improve upon.

Hopefully we don't let It slip away for a third time.

Should have never been in the playoffs. Rams ran the ball 3 times and snapped the ball at 10 sec each time then punted. They gave the 49ers an extra 30 sec. They scored the tying TD with 26 sec left. lol

Got lucky week 18. Lucky against the Cowboys. Super lucky against GB. Then the luck ran out.

Jimmy lucky
Dak unlucky
Aaron unlucky
Stafford lucky

Doesn't matter if you have a broken thumb QB a scrambling gunslinger or the league MVP. Just gotta have all the luck.
wasn't lucky.. we won inspite of jimmy trying to give games away.. but that only lasts so long

I checked the all 22. It's luck.

thinking crabtree was clutch was our mistake and thinking jimmy is clutch was another mistake. in both cases.. the head coaches also had major brain farts in regards to coaching that hurt as well

I don't believe in clutch anymore. I only believe in luck.

agree. had the cowboys not been so dumb and knotheaded with the play and coaching. we lose..... no deebo,. we lose the rams game and packers game. plus we got lucky that the packs special ed teams were just a titch worse than ours.

I actually threw up my hands in the air and couldn't believe it when we won at GB off a fluke special teams play. Literally, we won because Richard Hightower saved the day. Happy to see that they went as far as they did, but last year was probably the luckiest I've ever seen this team. And usually, this team is unlucky.

There is no trade situation. Better gif would be an empty room with nothing going on.

I like how in a tightly contested, 3 point loss, people are pointing the finger at specific players or one side of the ball. When it's that close, we're talking about a difference of a few plays in pivotal moments.

There's a lot of blame to go around. But the three most notable things:

  • Jimmy just wasn't good enough against a talented defense that was super hungry to win. He barely completed 50% of his passes that day. His yardage totals are buoyed by the fact that our receivers can run well after the catch. Yes, he was pretty banged up, but I thought the game was pretty emblematic of why we're moving on from him. He didn't play well, no excuses here.
  • The offensive line got abused. The only guy I give an "excuse" to is Trent Williams, because the guy was playing on one ankle, but the offensive line didn't play well.
  • The 49ers defense, as a whole, just didn't have an answer to the short passing game. Our cornerbacks couldn't cover Kupp & OBJ for our vaunted pass rush to get there in time. A couple people mentioned that our defense did its job, limiting the Rams to 20 points... That's true, but I also point out they allowed 11/18 on third down. The Rams were playing ball control offense. The game plan wasn't to try and score 40 points. They wanted to play methodical football: In the end, of their possessions, they only punted once and were intercepted once. Every other possession resulted in a score.

I agree with everything except this statement. They didn't want to, they had to. Our pass rush was dominating their O line for much of the game. Too bad our corners were getting eat up on the short passing game and made it all too easy for them.

I frankly don't remember how the Rams tried to start the game, but I'm pretty sure they came out with the short passing game as a counter to our pass rush. Whether they started the game out that way or it was an in-game adjustment, it was a smart decision either way on their part.

To be honest, I'm actually surprised it took them three games to figure it out. If there was one weakness in our defense last year, it's that the cornerbacks weren't necessarily as strong as the front 7 and safeties. If there was a "blueprint" to beating our defense last year, that's it. Fortunately for us, there are few offenses in the league that are good enough and disciplined to beat our defense like that.

Luck plays a big part in a ton of SB runs/wins.

Good post.. consider Rams won by 3 with HOF players all over the D and Kupp a triple crown WR.. we have busted up JG, OL was blown up, Tartt was doing his Stonehands impression.. and we still hung with em.

This year I guarantee KS has figured out Cooper Kupp he won't be getting his so easy anymore.. we already made a move to get some help Mr. Womack also CWard.. it's a game of adjustments we won't be defending Kupp like we did last year..

Seems like it. Even if the Browns were interested, are they really going to pay him $25 million and give up a draft pick just to get him in the building a week earlier? If they wait until we cut him, they can probably sign him for about $5 million.

SoCold, where have you been all offseason.. good points I have been mentioning this.. ppl mock JGs playoff numbers.. there would be no playoffs without JG.. just as there were no playoffs without him in 2018 and 2020.

The win in spite of JG narrative blows up when you consider as you mention.. on the road vs HOF eventual SB Champ D... 1:27 left.. no timeouts.. length of field.. gotta have it drive.. JG made all the throws

Heres the thing 49F6....

While the underline is true, it doesnt excuse the italic.....which is how you are presenting it. Yes, Jimmy played well when it counted and won the Rams game for us at the end. But he absolutely s**t the bed in the playoffs (again), and that should also be acknowledged. Just because he played well at the end of the Rams game, doesnt mean its ok that he played like s**t in the playoffs.

They won't be paying him $25M, they'll negotiate a lower contract with him.
