Lamar Jackson
Ben Roethlisberger (he of 33 TDs to 10 INTs before you say he can't play)
Matthew Stafford
Dak Prescott
Ryan Tannehill (33 TDs, 7 INTs)
Lamar Jackson
Derek Carr (Yeah, three time Pro Bowler, 27 TD to 9 INT,4000+ yards last year)
Kirk Cousins (That's right, Kirk and his 35 TDs to 13 INTs is better than Jimmy)
Joe Burrow (was already on Jimmy's level as a rookie. He'll be pushing into the elite bubble this year or the next)
Unless Jimmy gets better, he's CLEARLY in the 16-23 range.
Context matters.Just not to you.
Yes he did. A good year. A top 20 year.
He made a BUNCH of bad decisions, which was why his interception rate was 7th worst in the NFL. He also threw a bunch of interceptable passes that weren't caught. So no, he didn't avoid making boneheaded decisions.
HOWEVER, you're right, he didn't keep us out of the Super Bowl. He was good enough to not mess up the best running game and second best defense and to convert some third downs. Those are facts. Good game manager who sometimes throws really stupid passes (resulting in the 7th worst INT% in 2019, and would have been SECOND WORST in the league in 2020 if he threw enough passes). But a great defense kept that from hurting too much.
A lot of quarterbacks did worse than him in the statistical measures, including Rodgers. But that's how it goes. There is no one who thinks Rodgers is actually a worse qb than Jimmy. The problem isn't statistics in and of themselves. The problem is some people seem to not realize that statistics are only little markers that tell you to look more closely at something.
Only YOU need to push that false narrative to avoid answering the question you really should be answering: How can jimmy be in the bottom half of quarterbacks -- up to the VERY WORST ONE, #32, which you hilariously insinuate -- but perform in the top 25% - 33% according to the well accepted, normal, everyday, conventional NFL statistical measures? How can that happen mr genius? How is it that Ryan Fitzpatrick had the 5th best QBR last year and the 8th in 2019, genius?
As for why Jimmy finished statistically so well, it's because the 49ers had the very best running attack in the NFL (less QB rushing), great weapons, and the best play designer in the NFL. You put 15, maybe 20 other QBs on that team in that same situation, and they will do as good or better.
In 1995 Jim Harbaugh had the best passer rating in the NFL. He wasn't even remotely in Steve Young or Brett Favre's league.
Context. MAtters.
He got Matt Schaub to the Pro Bowl.
Oh wait. i know. It's all about Kyle. The Mad Scientist. The X and O Visionary. Any QB can perform great under his system. He turns grocery baggers into All Pro's. It's obvious that he is the Quarterback Whisperer, incubating a slew of brilliant prodigies like Blaine Gabbert, CJ Beathard, Brian Hoyer, Nick Mullens. Plus a great QB track record in Cleveland and Washington too.
The Shanahan effect is real. No, he can't make people WHO DON'T BELONG IN THE NFL suddenly become good. But he can take the 16th best QB and make him have the 12th best QBR.
So Jimmy stepped into that .... and did ok. Not hall of fame. But his quick release made a lot of plays happen that year. And it was good for the team. Good for Kyle's system.Wrong! Kyle CHANGED his system for Jimmy. Look at his team in Atlanta. That was a down the field offense. In 2016, only five QBs threw more deep passes than Matt Ryan.
Fact is Kyle sounds like he's the worst guy to get performance out of his QB's.Is this a joke or are you serious?
He's so smart he knows all their weaknesses and never puts stuff in the game plan they are likely to blow. So they never progress in those areas because they never get live reps. And if you make a mistake -- . I'm sure kyle will be the first to be searching the waiver wire. Great confidence builder. It's not entirely that Kyle is overly demanding -- there's a lot of pressure on him too, which rolls down hill.Top 1/3, huh. That means you believe Jimmy was the 11th best QB in 2019.
But Jimmy took it all in stride and for whatever reason -- ego, plain luck, whatever -- came out ok in 2019. Not brilliant but good. Good enough to be among the top 1/3 of qb's that year by most accounts. That's all anyone is saying.
Here is the top 20 total QBR ranking, and with the QBs who are better than Jimmy but ranked below him highlighted:
Lamar Jackson
Patrick Mahomes
Drew Brees
Dak Prescott
Russell Wilson
Matthew Stafford
Deshaun Watson
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Ryan Tannehill
Derek Carr
Carson Wentz
Jimmy Garoppolo
Kirk Cousins
Matt Ryan
Kyler Murray
Jameis Winston
Tom Brady
Daniel Jones
Baker Mayfield
Aaron Rodgers
Well that knocks Jimmy down to 17th. Maybe you can delete Fitzpatrick and Wentz from above him (although I'm not so sure he's better than Wentz, certainly not before Wentz' injury when he was getting MVP talk). If you do that, you get Jimmy all the way to 15th. Then when you add Ben Roethlisberger on that list, Jimmy drops right back down to 16th. Of course, Brees has retired. But sadly, now we have to add Herbert to the list (clearly better) and it's only a matter of time before Trevor Lawrence is ranked in the top 10. Maybe we'll see another young QB over take him sooner or later.
....
Bottom line:
The only way Jimmy isn't in that 16-23 range in 2021 is if he GETS BETTER than he has been.
I do hope he does. Trey Lance isn't going to be ready this year most likely, and 2017-2019 Jimmy isn't quite good enough to get us number 6. He needs to be better. Even just a little bit better might be enough to push us over the edge.
What a bunch of crap. LoL.
