Usually it's a phrase that just means running the play as called. Red 18 doesn't sound anything like "can" so that way you know for sure which play of the two in the huddle they're running.

A lot of similar offenses will use the same terminology. I think GB uses red 18.

Under hatbaugh I think it was "white 80" and "kill" for the secondary play.
