Everyone can get better, however, for a guy who has yet to play his 16 NFL ball game:
#13 ranked QB at NFL.com
#15 PFF.

I also think that slant to Dante last week in the red zone would have been another.
I've just grown tired of everyone criticizing Jimmy when his number should look much better if he had receivers catching balls that should be caught.
What about doing the same exact thing on the opposite side of the spectrum and counting how many interceptions was dropped. Guys, It's okay to discuss flaws or concerns on an internet forum meant for exactly that, discussion good or bad of the players on the team we all love. Yes, even Jimmy G has flaws, ALL QBs do and will

Ok... let look at your concern in context.... Steve young had a 2.5% int to attempt ratio
Jimmy G is at 2.7
For reference Drew Brees is at 3.5%
When we look at the big picture of o-line and skill position talent versus what Steve was working with versus what Jimmy G is working with .... well its hard to critique the guy right now.
Nobody is immune from critique, Shanny and Jimmy himself would agree. I agree with everything SteveWallace is saying. I love Jimmy G and am happy as hell we have him, but some people here are too googly eyed for him and get defensive on anything negative said about him even if It's absolutely true
I have no issues with SWH, have liked his posts for years.....
I'm just saying have some context, Jimmy G is so far down the list of issues, it's a non starter.
I was responding to the critique on interceptions.... if that's the complaint.... your going to get the response your getting. Jimmy G is safer with the football the our worst version of HOF Steve Young.... hell he is safer then Drew Brees and he is doing it with no named WRs and a crap o-line.

Appreciate the kind words.
Agree with this post although I would like to clarify that I dont believe Jimmy to be "an issue." I am very pleased with him as our QB. There are tons of things I love that he does, yet there are a couple things that I wish he would do better.
Example: the Goodwin drop. That ball was 5 yards underthrown and would have been an easy TD if not for the fact it was thrown where it was. But because Goodwin dropped it, people are claiming this is me hating on Jimmy. I'm not. I like Jimmy a lot. It was just a bad pass. Its possible to like a player a lot and admit he made a bad play.

One more game and he's a 14-2 4K QB. Not a bad start to a career.
Very good, although in 7 of the wins he was in a perfect situation (2016 Patriots and 2019 49ers [defense and running game]).
He went 6-2 (2017 and 2018, the team was bad, just bad) when he was in a bad situation. IMO, going 6-2 in a bad situation is even more impressive than the 13-2 record.

Surprising he gets called a game manager when it's pretty clear the defense is what's managing the game.

It is easy to use stats like Y/A but this is a situation where watching the game gives you better context. His Y/A is 8.0 but that doesn't mean his air yards are 8.0. ESPN Next Gen stats, Jimmy is 4th from last in average air yards at 6.4 per attempt. This tells you that our receivers/targets are getting a lot of RAC.
From what I have seen, Jimmy has not been all that great going through his progressions. He doesn't appear to "see it" yet. He tends to stand too long in the pocket. He is solid on timing plays.
For us to really make some noise in the playoffs, Jimmy will need to figure it out before then. Right now, he's just a game manager that quickly gets the ball to the talent and lets them work. He has had his nice throws but he hasn't necessarily cut a defense like a surgeon yet.
Thank you. That is exactly the way I see it.
Well, you guys need to get your vision checked.
what the f**k are they talking about? I mean really. Now Jimmy holds onto the ball too long? he's one of the least sacked QB's.
My guess is that they both play fantasy football and mistakenly took Jimmy as their main QB, and it is costing them fantasy points so they come here to complain. Fantasy football is utter b******t, and kinda ruins fans, rooting for players instead of teams.
Well your guess would be utterly wrong my friend. I don't play fantasy ball. I do however, record the games and watch them at least a second or third time through the week.
Nobody is saying he holds the ball too long on designed quick hit plays, but there are a good number of times when asked to drop back on deeper plays hold the ball in the pocket rather than throw it away or check down, which results in a sac. This trend started last year befor he got hurt, though not quite as bad this year.
As for passing yards, Joecool is spot on. Go look at he the offensive line thread from this morning. Jimmys "air yards" are something like 4.9 an attempt. Yesterday he was 4.2, second lowest in the league this year. Just watch a game and you'll see how much he benefits from guys like Kittle after the catch.
I watched the game, I re-watched the game, I watch all the Niners games at least twice. You guys are just complaining to hear yourselves talk, nitpicking a single stat like you secretly resent him or something. Jimmy gets rid of the football faster than anyone in the game, they were just showing the times for it pregame yesterday. He is 15 games into his professional career, and he is playing awesome for someone with so little game experience. If you drafted a rookie, would you expect better than what Jimmy is doing? Kyle said himself that it takes a couple of seasons to fully get the offense, and Jimmy seems to be running the offense to the tune of 29 points and about 29-30 points a game, good for top five in most categories. As for passing yards, if that's what you think the measure of a quarterback's success is, maybe YOU should try watching some football.
"Watch a game" my ass, ...
Though I watch the games for myself and come to my own conclusion, do you know how many commentators and beat writers are saying the same thing? Right now he's not being asked to do much and is playing okay. Life is good for a QB that has an offensive genius as a coach and is playing behind the leagues leading rushing attack. All he is being asked to do is make some pretty simple throws and not turn the ball over. So far he's got half of that down. I expect him to improve. When he is asked to do more, likely after Joe and Jizz return, I hope to see the qb I had gogglyeyes over in 2017.
Kyle said it best himself. If you are winning a game and the only way you could lose is by turning the ball over, why would you increase the risk of turning the ball over? It is exactly why they say run the ball and play defense and you can win championships. Football 101 man. We have seen Jimmy do what he can do back in 20017, when the defense was meh, and there was the second half of the Steelers game where he had to win it against the number 7 defense in the NFL.

that defense is killing it putting up the 29.4 points a game and 408 yards per game this year.

I agree. I have no issues with cc. The criticism that I've seen from him has been legit
You've missed a great deal of his posts then. I like CC though, I've been around long enough to know him before whatever happened to make him such a bitter cynical type happened. His is super thin skinned now, and he does like to play the victim when he is treated how he is because he goes overboard with some stuff. There are way worse, real trolls on these forums, and we don't even have to name names, everybody knows.

It's good data.
You need to be able to apply criticism across the board to multiple QBs, unless you're holding our QB to different standards or taking out your biases on him.

I get upset at INT's just like everyone else, especially when they happen in the red zone or in the other teams red zone. Joe and Steve threw their share and the all time leader in INT's is Brett Favre. I'll take any of those 3 on my team. Trying to force a pass from time to time is okay if it doesn't happen at a critical time like during a 4th quarter comeback. You can't make plays by playing it safe all the time. The most frustrating INT's are the ones that bounce off a receiver's hands and right into a defender's. We've had our share of those but we benefited from one against the Browns.

taylor coming back may be a huge key here. now. i have no real major issues issues with the passing game. jimmy has been good and we have seen him put the team on his back so no worries there. i just wish these wide outs would be more consistent catching the ball. I am skeptical about taylor cuz of his injuries and what do we really have. if he comes back and gives us that reliable third down guy. then teams have to account for more than just george in that area. pettis drives me crazy, goodwin has just been a bit underwhelming to me. but again as long as we run the ball and play the good defense. the minor issues i have in the passing game are not tragic at all
