That's when every drive is at its best and we always see success. Why in the world we don't run more quick pass options and slants is maddening. That's where the offense has had the most success, it's the way every drive should be run.
I think you're selling Mullens very short if you think he's limited . Not saying he's Montana, but I but he will prove to be better than quite a few more high profile QBs in recent years.
I think that's why we got some tight ends this last offseason. It maximizes Nick's short and medium range throws. Kittle was in synch with Mullens, and with the new tight ends, I think if Mullens had to step in for Jimmy - Mullens now has the ability to throw to alternate tight ends.
It's a good point, GIedi, and yes it will help Mullins to some extent....but same can be said for Jimmy too. If a couple receivers be they WRs, TEs, RBs, or combos of all 3 , anything you can do to make your QBs, no matter who they are , better, well ...fine. Really we are just talking about more targets for whoever is our QB, altho we hope it is JimmyG, which means he is fully returned to being physically ok to play to his maximum ability. And same goes for our very fine/excellent #2 QB.
Basically, adding Hurd and Deebo just helps make the Kyle O go. We are incredibly fortunate to have a #2 QB who is as talented as Mullins is, given his inexperience, small # of hours fo playing time, and so on. Should we make a run this yr, or perhaps next, we are well fixed at QB with both our fR QB as well as a top flite #2. Having a strong #2 in a run for the SB, is usually the final piece in a SB run. We have the 2 ERs, the FR Qb, the high end #2 QB, but are lacking still some of the building blocks needed for a SB run. Specifically we are missing a starting OG, CB, and S. Most SB teams have those all in place but no top flite #2 QB.
Having the best OC in the league, it is not all that surprising we have not just the FR QB but also the excellent #2. We have the ERs, the WRs, TEs, RBs, FB, a very fine front 7, an OL that has worked together or an entire yr....our only shortcomings are starter OG, CB, and S. The offseason is not yet over, and still it is possible that we find a cap cut/trade at one or more of our missing slots.
Is that enough....enough to make a run this yr? We do have the one most innnovative OC/HC in the league and no telling exactly how valuable that is and how that affects any run we may make. Mullie is just a piece of this. But he is an invaluable piece of insurance and a luxury many teams that make a run this yr do NOT have.
Our chances this yr will be made or broken based upon just how well our team parts amalgamate. If we gel, we go deep in playoffs. But we may still be a yr away of guys playing long enough with one another before we are truly ready to make our move. But Mullie sure helps.
