Not many teams can whiff on a top 3 pick and still have a popping d line. Helps when you have 4 other 1sts though.

But many teams that tank for four years can.

But then again he doesnt have the size to anchor against the run inside so its pick your poison with him. Better pass rush at the sacrifice of run defense with him inside or better edge run defense with no pass rush on the outside.

Once again, total nonsense. You don't anchor with size, you anchor with strength and leverage. Thomas is better at this than anyone else on the team. When teams run combination blocks on Buckner or Julian Taylor, it's 8 up the middle. When they do it at Thomas, he keeps a linebacker clean and Kwon Alexander knocks the stuffing out of the ball carrier.

Thomas's problem is he's a lousy pass rusher. He doesn't understand how to play half a man.
He has 14 more games to prove himself or hopefully we can get something in a trade.

Move him for something

He has a $9M cap hit next year. They have AA, Blair and Day up on contracts. There is no chance they keep Thomas over one (or two) of those guys. I think he's done with the Niners this offseason.

unless he takes a pay cut

Typically those teams like to mix it up and bust on other areas.
Had a good hustle sack. No doubt about it fellas. He's an DR. Cancel your hopes of him getting inside snaps. They appear to like 4/5 other guys on the interior

Cause 4 to 5 other guys are better inside.

Absolutely no evidence of this. Armstead's sack today came from the edge. D.J. Jones is a run down specialist. Nose guard type. I'm not sure Jullian Taylor even has a pressure in his career yet. I don't think Sheldon Day has gotten a pressure yet this year either.
Definitely has a good motor and hustle, but not a good pass rusher.

Yeah and Solly can't beat out those guys pretty sad I know. And there more to playing inside than rushing the passer

It's obvious that Bosa is already 10x the pass rusher Thomas is. Bosa was once again around the QB many times this week.

When you watch Thomas rush the passer, he just get's totally locked up and neutralized. Not strong enough to pull rush a 320 tackle, not skilled enough to get bye him either. Arik Armstead, a guy drafted to be a 3-4 DE, is a better pass rusher than Thomas.

He's a quality backup....an above average pass rusher from the DT position....but yeah, wasted pick.

Can he play offensive tackle?

It's also guaranteed. Unless they trade him he will be a 9er one more season
stick a fork in him, Solly is most likely cut next year and moving on to the Seacawks or Tards

Agree. I haven't seen that explosiveness that you need as a great pass rusher. I hope he can still develop. But I think Kocureck (if given the chance to re-draft the 2017 1st pick again in hindsight) probably would prefer somebody else. Thank god Zgonina is gone.

It's the only year left on his deal. They won't pick up the 5th year. I still think they can dump him for a 2021 7th to a team who wants to take a look for a year.
