Not liking this signing unless he's for depth. He's supposedly pretty bad covering TEs.
In March of 2015, Smith signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Raiders. Smith played in 31 games – starting 30 – over the past two seasons in Oakland. During that timeframe, he had 225 tackles, four sacks, nine passes defended, two interceptions, and four forced fumbles...

So, why do some of you have a problem with this signing?? these stats probably beat all ILB's on our team stats last year COMBINED. This guy knows the system and can play either Will or Sam., again what shud we have done? Overpay for a guy like Hightower, then you guys something to cry, whine, and b***h about??!!.. Boy I tell you, some of you guys would cry over a premature ejaculation in a wet dream.. sheesh!!

Coverage is why (or lack thereof). That doesn't show up in the stat sheet.
I like the signing since we really don't have a legit 4-3 OLB right now. Also, malcolm played in this type of 4-3 before. There is actual tape we can look at while he was with seattle to see how he performs. God knows what the raiders were asking him to do.

Considering Hightower would be a fantastic acquisition, fill a major need at SAM, allow us to cut Brooks, and offer vet leadership...

cut brooks and cash out on hightower.. where will lynch play? DE?
I think this guy and a good draft picks-provides both an upgrade a depth w/o breaking the bank.. We can spend more money elsewhere, He has 9 passes defended and 2 picks.. So coverage does kinda show up in stats.. 4.4 speed helps too. He'll be fine/we'll be fine.

SOLID, not a flashy signing-but so what, we can get a flashy player at the same position in draft. I love this signing/address of the position.

I like it. He's experienced in the system and can play. I still expect them to draft two linebackers early in the draft though.

Yep. Tank and Lynch get a year to prove something.

Harold is a liability against the run and lacks the skill set to drop into coverage. He's more of a specialist rushing the passer.

If Lynch gets back to his rookie weight he has the ability to be our sam. He has the speed was a 4.69 40 at his pro day at 250

Just the opposite IMO. There's been nothing special about his pass rushing and he has been pretty good setting the edge and does have the skill set to drop into coverage esp if he drops some weight.

And not much of one.
