"There's a segment of practice you've seen where he (Kyle) goes and plays quarterback against our defense because he wants to challenge 'em and poke holes in the coverages," general manager and famous former safety John Lynch said before the season. "I mean, the mad scientist in him kind of meets the ex-football player. And he goes over there.

"I'll give you a little insight, sometimes I go in his office and he's watching film of himself against our defense. 'Come on, Kyle, let's move on.'"

"It started out just when I first got here in training camp (in 2017)," Shanahan said Wednesday. "I've never paid attention to the defensive periods as an offensive coordinator. And (then in 2017, as a first-time head coach), just watching how their walk-throughs went, how they have, you know, like a linebacker coach or a quality control playing quarterback for them.

"I was always just watching it and then I got so frustrated with where they were going with the ball, telling them, 'that's not where they're going to go.' Things like that, 'cause I look at it more from a quarterback perspective. Then I realized, I guess, I could go in there and try it since I was the head coach."

"Kyle, he's really into it," Warner said. "We love seeing him back there giving us a look. I think it's just fun. It makes it fun. He's hard to reach out there (because nobody is rushing him), so it makes it hard on us when we're going through that install. Which makes it a little easier when it's live and bullets are flying (during games).
i wish Kyle would take more shots downfield

He doesn't have too. Kyle is a former wide receiver. He just pops in the air to himself and takes off. YAC monster!

wait, are you saying Kyle literally lines up opposite of the defense and pokes the holes he sees through some sort of walk through or something? that is awesome

Yes. He was upset that the scout team QB (some LB coach) was not attacking the correct areas of the field. So he thought "hey I'm the HC now, I can do what I want". So he played QB with no pass rush. The funny part of all this is he then watches film of himself.
People Ask for more shots down the field and i believe the plays are there!
just need all of our qb's not just jimmy to go through progressions.
This is seriously the greatest thing ever.

I watch myself in the mirror when I'm f**king so I guess it's almost the same thing lol

Shanny probably screws his wife and watches himself f**king and says to himself, "who's your QB baby"?

Lol. Call me Jimmy
How any 49er fan is even remotely against Kyle is beyond me. Kyle represents a true return to our roots, and for me personally represents the "next generation" in the Walsh succession after Holmgren, Reid, Gruden, Mooch, etc. Kyle represents what we all wanted for 15+ years following the Donahue/Erickson debacle.
Shanny is built like Pettis.
