Having a wild thought (possibly madden game inspired ) what if, with our lack of speed (assuming Aiyuk and Kittle don't play) Kyle uses lots of 23 personnel. Tight ends at Dwelley and Reed, backs are Mostert, McKinnon and Juice. Depending on what the defense comes out in (base or heavy) spread it out or run it on them.

Yeah, odd quotes from Shanahan...sounded like WR's weren't really in the game plan and were clearing tools instead but that said, would have liked to see more TE's and Arby's in the game plan if so.
22 of the 33 targets went to RB/FB/TEs Bourne/Taylor had 5 each and Pettis had one (which wasn't really catchable anyway). I'd say the offense was all about using the arby's and TEs.
It was actually a solid game plan IMO. AZ is still crap in vs the pass, really bad in the middle of the field (simmons and their LBers were horrible). Problem was Jimmy G just wouldn't let it rip and when he did it was poorly thrown for the most part
Gonna need that to improve lol
Interesting. It didn't even feel like Reed or any other TE was used much at all...no Wilson either. Felt very vanilla to me. Nothing exotic.
But yeah, JG better learn that short game now. We know where his strengths lie. That was a very poor game by him and concerning.
I think the WR injuries forced a TE and RB centric game plan. When you lose Deebo and Aiyuk, and you don't trust Pettis and Richie, and Trent is just coming back, got to go with a TE kind of a game plan, and that doesn't help when your primary TE gets a knee sprain. I got the feeling it was one of those games that just got away from the 49ers. Kyle called a very conservative game plan and wasn't really creative. Jimmy was rusty. Agree, Jimmy needs to improve, heck the whole offense needs to step it up. Hope Sanu makes an impact and jars the WR's out of their super bowl stupor and do something.

Fully agreed after rewatching. The game plan was obvious. That said, Kyle wasn't very creative with Reed+Kittle and didn't use Wilson in his natural role either. He certainly had Mostert+McKinnon involved in the passing game early and often and that's great. Lots of screens. Many sniffed out though. Taylor was a common target as well in the short game. With no speed threat outside, the defense squatted and played in a tight box.

Agree with Giedi completely, esp all the negatives. But IIRC, didn't JG end up having the best % completion of passes over 20 yds in the entire league? That was with, however, 3 WRs who were top flite. Sunday we sorely missed Deebo and Aiyuk , not to mention Sanders. Get Deebo and Aiyuk back and a lot of our passing game problems go away. And yes, kyle did call a conservative game, but when you have a 4th string OG, who gets promoted from PS to starting Center, and you are missing your top two WRs, what other choice did kyle have? Jimmy was rusty, kittle got hurt early, Saleh didn't have an answer for KK and Kyler murray, add in a ST foul up....It was the perfect storm for a lousy game.

Kyle will find a way not to repeatedly pepper Robinson with targets.

You can justifiably critique Shanny for a lot of things, but he's never been afraid to face the media—at least based on the interviews I've seen.

I have to keep reminding myself it was just one game. We beat ourselves and have to tighten up and we'll be ok.

Shots fired at Bourne, Pettis and Taylor? All 3 were is position to fight for the ball.
Mohamed Sanu is tough and knows all the positions, #49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. He is confident if they need Sanu on Sunday, he'll go into the game and fight and compete.
