It does seem to happen allot to this team though. If Pettis catches it against seattle, if Kittle catches it against Atlanta, there has been a few others that could of iced games as well and kept them from getting as close as they did. Seemed like Mostert was doing well against a worn down Atl defense when they werent running directly at Jerret. Shanny's aggressiveness doesnt always take into account the risk of everything not going as intended. Great play calls but no factoring in the risk of not making a catch vs a hand off.
In the long run (over a few seasons) putting trust in your players to execute is usually the right move, even if growing pains hurt in the short run. So I get why Shanny puts it in his players hands on riskier plays here and there.
True, and shanny is definitely a players coach and placing his trust in them at all times. See Juice on those two plays before the TD or continually giving WRs chances after multiple drops. As a fan its just hard to watch the coaches put faith in the most suspect units rather than falling back on what is supposed to be the strength of the team with the running game.
I'd just love to watch this team run it down another teams throat to ice the game. Only one time this season comes to memory compared to the times Shanny gets cute with it.
the only thing here is that it wasn't even a risky play. The defender didn't even touch kittle, he just plain fumbled the ball lol...the first thing that flashed in my head was like the butt fumble... just a wtf play was that....but like I said I give him a pass because of last week, just don't expect those type of plays from his caliber of player.
True. Even great players don't win 100% of the plays they attempt. I know if I'm a coach I'm trusting Kittle there 99/100. This was the 1/100 he does that fumble on.
Not saying I don't trust him anymore lol, but man would have loved for it to still be 0/100. You could tell he felt it was his fault when they showed him on the telecast he looked all down and stuff instead of his usual poppy attitude.
I trust Kittle on that play but I trust a hand off more than any pass to any player. Even Julio dropped an easy pass. There is always a higher degree of risk with a pass vs a hand off. But it wasnt just that one play, it was the combination of all of them. Its a running team that always passes it to try and ice games.
I couldn't have said this any better... and this is my point.. Shanny's play calling looks good when it's a regular drive.. but when it counts the most, it gets stupid..
LOOK AT THE PATTERN..
Atlanta in the Super Bowl..
49ers against Seattle this year...
49ers against Baltimore this year..
49ers against Atlanta today...
All 3 teams that beat us, we gave them a chance and time to make their winning drive..
HAD not been the face mask vs the Saints, who knows, we could have gone 4 downs again and not converted due to another stupid passing play..
1. Rookie kicker just missed game winner.
2. Ball was tipped, great play on the Dline. Also could've been PI. This probably the only one where I wouldn't have minded a run play though.
3. Kittle had easy first down and game was over, he just fumbles with no contact.
When it counts the most, our players just didn't execute. The plays that were called put the destiny of a Win or Loss in our hands.
You summed it up best, I still say no matter who or where we play we can win, this team is built both anything
1) Rookie Kicker did missed it, but as a HC, you should have never put that game on a rookie kicker... 4 & 1 ?? You've got to realize that we were running the ball well and if we can't get 1 yard, then heck, we didn't deserve to win...
2) It wasn't just THAT 4&2, the fact that Shanny called for three passes on three 4thd downs is what bugged me then.. .We were having a great running game on the game against Balty... Balty's DL is overrated, I've said this all year.. they are not the BIG BOYS that everyone seems to be making them..
3) and so he did fumble and recover, ALREADY knowing that the team may not be up for this game, DON'T you think he should have GONE for the 1st down and get that 2 yards... game over... there was no ASSURANCE that Gould was going to make the FG anyways, so why not just try and show the team that he's got confidence on them to get that 1ST down... TO HAVE THE GAME OVER INSTEAD of HOPING that the GREAT D could stop Atlanta..
1. Team got screwed on the previous play.
2. Kittle made a choice.
3. And if they dont get those two yards, then what?
3... if we didn't get the 1st down, heck, the D still had to play, right??
the point here is that HE BELIEVED that our team will play flat, so why EXTEND the game.. why not TRY AND WIN IT by going for the 1st down to show the team that he believes in them ...
YOU GOTTA BELIEVE BABYYY !!!
maybe he believed in the team's defense to stop em?
