It looked like we actually might have stepped up the rebuild by yet another yr. By rights, right now we shouldn't have a JimmyG. that was never on the option board , thanks to BB. Then things changed and suddenly he is here tearing it up. And not stiffs either, as Jags had to win to get home field. And we beat them.
REALITY: i felt we would nail down 5 of or 6 missing pieces this yr, LB, OG, CB, LB, S/CB...and another OG for good measure. I didn't think we would get our ER, whether OLB or DE. I'm not talking about Achoo but the best PR in the draft...Chubb. It didn't happen and that was no surprise. But i thot we would get the above 5 pieces. Well we came close with CBs, LBs, and then surprise, Pettis...on a team loaded with WRs. That was fine....just no OG , tho. So we got 4 of our 6 and but none were OGs nor all pro ERs.
So we got a spectacular WR /PR/KR in Pettis. Ok, that pretty well matches with JimmyG. Minus no starting OG, our O looks ready. Can we squeeze 2 OGs out of Laken, PErson, cooper, magnus? Maybe....maybe not. But the ER is the piece we need most... i just hope i don't eat those words if OGs don't pan out. So yeah, i was ready for THIS yrs run at the SB, not next yr. Somehow, after watching the JimmyG show last yr , i thot maybe, just maybe we might be ready for that run this yr....but odds of doing that in just 2 yrs, a complete rebuild...wow, that is a long shot.. It will be painful tho, if we play great and almost make it...but not quite.
Note: if we go to the SB, it is to win. I don't want to go and then get beat.. We go to win...and probably you all are correct that this is a 3 yr rebuild, not 2. That is being piggy, yes, but the talents of jimmy were just breathtaking. Maybe he could overcome no RG...but no ER? I think that is the piece that tells the tale. I can hope for it, but you all are right...we are 1 yr out still...but doesn't mean i can't hope for otherwise.
Regarding edge rusher, ShanaLynch never drafted an edge rusher in this years class and never brought in any undrafted free agent rusher, *and* let Dumervill go. With what we have -- Buckner, Solomon, Pita, Cassius and Attaochu - we should have a better pass rush than last year. Eli Harold's trade (to me) seems like ShanaLynch thinks Pita and Attaochu are ready to play pass rusher. Last year Pita was on the inactive list 99% of the time. If ShanaLynch was more concerned with the pass rush, they'd never have let Elvis go, and/or the would have immediately signed Elvis after the Eli trade. Unless there's blockbuster trade for an elite edge rusher - I think ShanaLynch is confident in their current crop of edge rushers and won't even look for any after the cut to the 53.
