Hopefully jags go with coughlin. The advantage of us over the rams is that if McDaniels doesn't like Goff, he's stuck with him cause of lack of picks. At least with us he has more flexibility with who he wants. This would be the guy I want.

"Chiefs VP of player personnel Chris Ballard":
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-gm-candidate-chris-ballard-20150106-story.html
""He understands coaches," Gabriel said. "He understands how coaches think. And now, having been in the scouting business for 14-15 years, he understands how the scouting process works and how scouts think. And really, to be a good leader and a good general manager, you have to understand both sides of the story and you've got to be able to put it together and you've got to be able to please people."".
Site Commentor:
"While I'd prefer Accorsi myself, Ballard may be the guy! I read Bill Parcells' autobiography (Parcells: A Football Life) and, in the book, he basically said that the qualifications to be a good general manager must include previous experience as a coach, scout and/or former player. Ballard served as a reputable scout and coached at the college level; therefore, having experience at two of the three, I'm convinced that he is a "football guy"...".

Rex has more of a media friendly personality. Pretty easy to see him doing commentary next season instead of coaching, IMO.

You have to remember the Yorks just promoted a defensive line coach to HC before he was ready. Now we want to get a special teams coordinator promoted? I get that they're different things, but I'm not comfortable with that.
If thats what Ballard wants, then whatever though. Guess you gotta roll with it. We don't have options
You realize that Marv Levy, Bill Cowher, and John Harbaugh all have their backgrounds as Special Teams Coordinators.

I don't really have a specific choice for HC...but I do like Louis Riddick for GM. If Jed hires him, he'll pick his own HC, but I have no idea who he might hire...maybe that's a good thing. He's got experience as director of pro personnel for both the 'Skins and Eagles and for the last 3 years has been an NFL analyst for ESPN. That gives him a unique perspective on potential HC candidates. Kyle Shanahan will be a popular choice, no doubt. I like the idea of a younger HC...totally fresh approach and maybe more in tune with today's game. McDaniels should be a lot more ready for a HC position now...and there's no doubt he's got a brilliant offensive mind. That said, our new GM could hire somebody not on popular lists...kinda makes the search intriguing. Your point WRT Toub is well taken...STC's have made excellent HC's, in part because they utilize players from both offense and defense. With so many HC vacancies now, the key is to hire a GM quickly so he can grab the guy he really likes before some other team does.
