DeForest Buckner DE - 7th overall pick

Really? Cause I thought this thread was titled, "What qualifies a player to be a superstar? AKA the most annoying debate in 2019 thread"

This happens a lot on the forum. In this case someone referred to Buckner as an elite player and it morphed into 'what is a superstar'. It's easy to lose site of what the original thread was. Probably should have been it's own thread.

I don't see anything wrong with debating whether Bucker is a superstar. That requires defining what a superstar is. Totally debatable.

What else is there to discuss about our best player, in June? lol

To me, a superstar is more than just what they do between the lines.

most annoying? for realz?

I mean there's some pretty bad ones in here

I know right?! Like debating if an old kicker should be tagged but Gould is not old for a kicker but he is too old for the tag.

I thought we were talking about football ability and value in the market.

I understand the sentiment, but real question:

Do you think Chris Jones is a superstar?

If not Buckner definitely isn't either.

I think Buckner is the second best player at his position and the best 49er on the team and I think SuperStar is an subjective term that can mean a lot of different things to different people.
I don't think of any football player as a Super Star.

I guess I'll take that as a "no."

Edit: And just so I'm doing more than being cryptic. I'd comfortably refer to Buckner with the following terms: "fan favorite," "local hero," "ascending player."

As 9ers fans we can call him whatever we want and insist he *will be* whatever we want, but nationally, I don't think he even has the reputation of Chris Jones, and for good reason.

I don't think of any player as a superstar, who cares about notoriety?

Buckner is a better football player than Jones.

I'm sure it will get worse as the summer goes on. Always does.

Anyways, anyone have anything to say about buck that isn't "superstar related"?

Glad to see we all agree that he aint there yet... as for a newer Bucko topic..

would 6 sacks be a disappointment to everyone??
Didn't he get 12 last year?

Defensive tackle isn't generally a position that produces superstars anyway. Guys that are known by people who may or may not even watch football. Aaron Donald is the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL, maybe the best of his generation, possibly one of the best in NFL history and I don't even think he would qualify as a superstar, not if we're going by a definition of fame/recognition by people who don't watch football.
I understand what you mean about a DT. Which also brings up what actually makes a player a hall of famer. Imo way to many players in the NFL hall of fame aren't worthy.
I really hope they are actually working on getting his deal signed, sealed and delivered.

That's depends. How did Ford, Bosa and Thomas/AA do?

It's more about his impact on the game when he is in. If he's getting doubled, which allows someone else to win one-on-one's, I'm all for it.

there should not be any excuses for Bucko since we just loaded up the line with Ford and Bosa.

You just quoted yourself, how has Buckner not proven himself, 12 sacks without an outside edge rush, and he's not good enough, Jesus.
