I'm thinking the same. AA seems to thrive as an afterthought. Hey, there are a lot of players that make a good living doing that. 49ers just need to understand that's what he is and game plan around it. Which they can do with Bosa and/or a healthy Ford on the field

Dude is getting paid to do it on his own. The 49ers didn't give him $17m avg per yr to ride the coattails of Nick Bosa.

What a waste of money. The dude is awful relative to what he's getting paid. There are going to be some damn good edge rushers this year in free agency that are twice, some triple, as good as Arik Armstead and will be making nearly half as much as he does. One of those guys is Kerry Hyder.

Comeback?....2019 was an outlier what we saw last season is AA.

Best case is Armstead has a similar season to 2019 and then the Niners can trade him in the offseason when his value is high.

Think positive. Teams overvalue those kinds of players often. Think Tully Banta-Cain with us vs. wiih the Patriots. With one or two strong seasons, some team will trade for him. We can easily start leaking rumors about cuts for salary cap reasons (which isn't entirely false).

With the lineup I want of Bosa/Givens or Jones/Kinlaw/AA + Hyder, Willis, maybe Ojulari +Daelin Hayes/Jonathan Cooper (or some other day 3 edge), AA can shine again and we can dump that contract.

No sense on continuing to be mad about it. What's done is done. I'm hoping he can rise with talent around him and at least one team of the other 31 will be fooled enough to take AA on.

Lol. Its not like we are talking Solomon Thomas. AA is like John Paxon. He can bury some shots because of focus on Pippen and Jordan. Let's not treat him like he's Jed Buehler lol.

He's Bill Wennington.

I'm so glad that lynch used common sense and traded their best lineman and re-signed this stud.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but we really screwed up by going with this bum over paying Buckner. We at one time had a defensive line of Ford, AA, Buckner and Bosa. Now we have a defensive line full of question marks. Is Ford done? Was AA a one year wonder making his money off one on one match ups? Kinlaw flashed, will he continue to improve? How are Kinlaw's knees? Will Bosa be better, worse or the same after his injury? If we paid Buckner at least we would know for certain we got one stud that is gonna be ready to go game 1 2021.

We sign DeFo, we don't have Kittle locked up. Would you feel comfortable needing to pay Kittle with the new lower cap this year? How about Warner? It was never AA or DeFo. Do you seriously think it was a 'well we can keep one or the other' situation on equal footing? Where would you have found the 22 million dolla difference between last year and this year DeFo made that AA didn't? I wanted to keep DeFo, he broke the bank over his first 2 years though. Good for him though and got us a 1st in return so hopefully Kinlaw keeps eating squirrels.

Bingo.

We didn't screw up signing AA. We screwed up trading for Dee Ford.

Both were screw ups. Resigning AA was cool they just drastically overpaid him based off one good season during his contract year. The guy is nowhere near the player his contract would tell us he is.

Thats something that can certainly be said. This whole 'we chose AA over DeFo' thing has become the weakest hot take on the zone. Been repeated adnaseum to boot.

Armstead is still a phenomenal run defender and a huge reason our defense was as good as it was last year.

His 10 sacks may have been somewhat of an anomaly but being the only pass rush threat on the line is different from being the 3rd or 4th best.

Would Hyder have done so well if he was the #1 guy and all the pass protections were slid his way?
