That Marine Bobb McKittrick coached our offensive line during all five of our Super Bowl wins, and in all of that time, he had exactly one first rounder. Why? Because he wanted agility and blocking angles in the WCO. Mike and Kyle do too.
What I'm saying is don't expect us to build an OL like Dallas, with huge high draft picks.
Look, you can put your draft capital in the offensive line, have your team touted as one of the best lines, run power, get yourself a running quarterback that won't stay in the pocket, can't read defenses to know where to go with the ball quickly, can't anticipate receivers getting open until he sees it, takes a sack whenever that great line gives him less than 5 seconds, won't stay in the pocket, won't keep his eyes downfield, get a power back, and get a dumb coach who relies on powerful players to bludgeon the defense and bail his ineptitude out.
Or, you can put your draft capital in skill positions, get a more athletic line that you don't have to draft high, get a smart innovative offensive coach, get a smart quarterback that can read defenses who gets the ball out fast and can anticipate receivers getting open as he throws them open, use roll outs to create blocking angles, use an outside zone scheme to keep the defense running and off balance and create blocking angles, use a smart back that can anticipate cut back lanes before he actually sees it, use a back that receives well to make anything the defense does wrong and use this skill a lot, and never ever be hailed as one of the best offensive lines while you are hoisting multiple Lombardi trophies.
Let's not be confused. If you wanted an offensive line filled with high draft pick road graders, you didn't want Kyle Shanahan and the West Coast Offense, and you didn't want Jimmy Garoppolo. If you still want that, you are going to be disappointed, and you are judging Kyle and John on a false standard.
