I want both, but imo having an elite center would mask a lot of the issues and allow Kyle to get by more easily with mediocre guards. I also don't get investing 7 figures into Purdy and then not giving him better protection if you can. As for the defense, that's a different topic - they are investing there, but haven't drafted well. With Center they simply have not drafted anyone.
I can see a strong center helping more a power/gap scheme than a outside zone blocking team. Having said that,
I'm always for more good OLinemen than bad, for sure.
QB is the franchise face and is the most critical, you get that wrong - your head coach is out of a job. Example: Saleh and the Jets. So the money spent on Purdy is money well spent. Where ShanaLynch has spent OLine money is on the blind-side tackle. Thats a no-brainer. The harder decisions, at least in a zone blocking team is the Center and Right Tackle.
This is where the cap limits come into play. You can have 5 all-pro OLinemen, but its going to cost you a ton in cap space. You can't lock up talent like in the old dynasty days. You have to pick and choose and be constantly developing OLine talent because any depth you develop this year will be gone next year. Sad to say.
What i think ShanaLynch is doing right in the draft is throwing more draft capital at the OLine position. I also like how they are generating extra draft capital to do that - by trading down their first round picks.
