not sure this proves anything from the past years other than that this year is an unknown. which is true
Really? That's all you got out of this?
it's an OL segment.. what is really ground breaking in this segment that we don't know already ?
Can't read your mind. So you tell us what we all already knew. Because if we all knew, this thread would have far less challenges. LOL
i don't get any vibe of how bad he thinks they are and it's the soley reason we won't win..
just the changes at OL, the depth of OL, importance of OL and how far can an OL take you.. nothing ground breaking or not known
He straight up said pass protection cost us dearly in each case. The 26th PP rank also mirrored that. Last year was slightly better (Tomlinson example)...so now, with possibly 3 or 4 new starters he's hoping for adequate in that PP department. That'll at least give us a fighting chance. Honestly, adequate would be equivalent to last year which would be an excellent baseline and something to build off of for next year. I'd take that in a heartbeat IF running blocking remained elite/high end.
PP costs everyone in the end.. if our OL was truly bad last year.. we don't make the playoffs.
It sure does! Even the Elite QB's.
Like your levels of concern, it affects some teams far more than others and that's only heightened the deeper into the playoffs you go.
That's why GM's spend so much on pass rush and DC's who can disguise coverage just long enough to be consistently disruptive and allow that pass rush to get home. Over the past 5 years, our DL has contributed to beating all the top QB's except for a handful.
On the flip side, is the group trying to protect the QB from that from LT to FB.
Our OL has never been terrible collectively. Ever. It has never been poor (unless you think PFF PP 26th ranking grades apply). In fact in many spurts, it was the strength of the team (e.g. run blocking). It was a big reason we went as far as we did.
Were the weaknesses on it as a unit (e.g. PP) and lack of talent (e.g. Garland, Person, Brunskill, Compton) eventually going to cost us? Of course.
Now the question is, did we learn and improve upon that? If not, can we somehow work around it to win a Ship?
